Question:

I am looking for a trunk rack for 2 bikes, each weighs about 35lbs. The vehicle has a spoiler, plastic bumper, no hitch. I am concerned with weight against the bumper, spoiler, and the glass. Which rack would be best, I am also looking at not too much money, as these trips will be few and mostly short trips to local bike trails. I see some models allow for a way to stop the clip inside the vehicle, instead of hooking it onto the vehicle such as at the top, near a spoiler - is this possible with any brand just buy the pads that go around the strap? I would think it is most beneficial to place the lower portion of the rack under/near the license plate and the upper portion close to the top of the glass or close to the bottom of the glass, for my car the farther distance would be near the top of the glass. I would also think it would be better to have a wider stance for the bike rack, to distribute the weight better?

I would recommend going with the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 2 Bike Carrier, # HRF2. This rack has been confirmed to fit your 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe and was specifically designed for vehicles with spoilers. This rack does include the hatch anchors that are used for the upper mounting straps. I have included a picture to give you an idea of how the rack attaches around a spoiler.

Here are a few tips that can considerably reduce the risk of damage to your vehicle when using a trunk mounted bike rack. 1) Make sure the surface of the rack and vehicle are clean and free of any debris. A good coat of quality car wax applied to the vehicles finish will also provide extra protection. 2) Installation instructions should be precisely followed. 3) Rack should be removed when not in use. 4) Rack weight capacity should be strictly adhered to.

If you plan on carrying women's, children's or alternative framed bikes, I recommend an adapter bar like part # 64005. This bar attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more evenly in the carrier while providing more ground clearance.
