Brake Controller Installation on 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT

Updated 04/11/2015 | Published 04/10/2015

Question:

Just purchased a 2015 Grand Caravan SXT with the factory OEM towing package and 7 wire plug. I have noticed the Blueinch wire under the hood.......but will the 3045-P wiring harness wok for my application? After some internet searches....I am unable to tell if Tekonsha has updated some applications for the 2015 models Thanks -

My contact at Tekonsha is unaware of a 2015 Grand Caravan that has a factory 7-way, we're guessing that the 7-way you have might have been a dealer installed option.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the blue wire you located is the output circuit for the brake controller that would need to run through the firewall and connect to the blue output circuit wire of the brake controller. The power, ground and stoplight switch connections for the controller would need to be manually completed as I don't believe there will be a connector under the dash for the # 3045-P to plug into. This is the same way Mopar used to set up the previous generation Grand Cherokee with the OEM 7-way.

The black and white wires coming off the controller would need to connect to the positive and negative battery terminals (black to positive, white to negative). The black power wire would need to run through a 20-amp circuit breaker. The red controller wire connects to the cold side of the brake stoplight switch. The stoplight switch is located at the top of the brake pedal. You'll see several wires exiting the switch. Use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to probe the wires exiting the switch until you find the wire that only shows power on it when the brake pedal is pressed.

We offer a # 5506 brake controller install kit that would include the wire and circuit breakers needed.

I'll link you to an FAQ article that will walk you though the process.
