Weight Distribution Recommendation for a Travel Trailer with 700 lbs Tongue Weight

Published 04/10/2015

Question:

I am a first time TT owner. The TT purchased is a 28inch cab with a 32foot overall length. I have a 250 desiel to pull the trailer. I have been all over your site looking at the various weight distribution systems and am leaning highly to the RP66084. I believe this will do the job required for the trailer. The tung weight of the trailer is 700 lbs. Is there anything a first time TT should know that isnt immediately told to a first time TT owner.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

The Strait-Line WD system part # RP66084 that you referenced is an excellent system that features the only sway control on the market that works to prevent sway before it starts. The tongue weight range for this system is 600 lbs - 1,200 lbs so your 700 lb tongue weight would be on the lighter side of the range but would give you "room to grow".

I included a couple help articles that you should find informative. Including one on trailer towing tips that I think you will like a lot.
