Does Truck Bed Need to be Empty When Setting Up a Weight Distribution System

Updated 04/07/2015 | Published 04/06/2015

Question:

I recently purchased a weight distribution hitch with sway control, part number Ps49902, for pulling a 2004 starcraft Antigua 185sb hybrid trailer with my 2002 Toyota tundra. I am carrying several dirt bikes in the back of the truck, with close to 400 lbs aft of the rear axle of the truck. Do I measeure the height of the rear fender of the truck with the weight in the back, or measure the unloaded height? With the bikes in back, the truck sits fairly level, with the back end ping a couple inches as compared to the back end higher than the front by 2.5inch when completely unloaded. It seems, Id want the truck level before adding the wd hitch and trailer.

The initial measurements of your 2002 Toyota Tundra will need to be taken with truck bed completely empty. You will want to load the motorcycles in the bed of your truck to take the measurements with the trailer coupled to the truck though, this way the system will be setup for how the vehicle will be loaded when ready to tow.

I attached an install video for the Pro Series System part # PS49582 with # 83660 that you referenced.
