Rust is not covered by the warranty on Tow Ready # 63803. However, there are some steps you can take to slow the process of rust forming. Hitches, ball mounts and hitch balls will always be exposed to abrasive road grit/sand, corrosive salts in cold climates and general dings from road debris, no matter what you do.

On a powder-coated steel hitch, for example, you can do your best to keep the hitch clean (to remove salts) and to touch up with anti-corrosive paint any spots that might have taken a ding from a rock or had the finish worn off. Keeping up on this will go a long way toward slowing the creep of rust on the hitch. The same goes for a powder coated steel ball mount.

Chrome or steel hitch balls can also be cleaned of grit and salt but their main enemy is going to be wear on their finish from friction from the coupler. A light coating of grease like # 58117 can't do any harm to the ball's lifespan.
