Can you turn it on when you are going down the road to see whats coming up? In other words is it used just for backing up or can you check out whats happening in the back when your going 70 miles an hour?

Expert Reply:
You can hardwire the Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera # HM50002 to your vehicle battery through a switch to let you turn it on whenever you wanted. The red wire of the harness would need to get run to the positive side of your battery while the black wire would get run to the negative side of the battery. On either of these circuit you would need to wire a switch in.
For a switch you could use the Derale Switch part # D16740.
