Published 01/15/2015

Question:

I would like to buy a chev 2500hd with a duramax with 6 1/2 bed truck 20015. 5th wheel weight unloaded 11965, dry hitch weight 2370, gross vehicle 15960, cargo caring weight 4095. Would this Chevy work with this 5th wheel. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

A 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with a Duramax diesel engine should have no problem towing a trailer with the weights you listed. Since different options will give different towing capacities you will still want to check with the Chevy dealer you are shopping at to be 100 percent certain.

If a long bed truck is an option at all I would recommend that over the short bed. Short bed trucks require a slider hitch so that the setup has the needed clearance to make tight turns. While a ton of people use slider hitches in short bed trucks it does require getting out of the truck and activating the slider every time you enter or leave a parking lot.

Either bed length will require the same fifth wheel rail kit. I would strongly recommend you go with a custom install kit like the part # RP50066-58 as it will cut install time in half and will minimize drilling.

If you do go with a short bed truck I would recommend the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S20 Slider # C95DR.

For the stationary version of this hitch in case you go with a long bed truck I would recommend the # RP30047.
