Heavy loads can cause the back of your vehicle to sag and add unnecessary stress to your suspension. This can affect your braking, handling, headlight aim, and even the wear on your tires. To improve your vehicle's ability to endure heavy loads, you need to add support to your existing coil springs.

Adjustable Air Pressure

Air Lift's 1000 Universal Air Springs fit inside your rear coil springs and have 1,000 pounds of load-leveling capacity. You can inflate and deflate these tough polyurethane helper springs as needed, ensuring the perfect amount of support for every load. It comes with manual inflation valves that are typically mounted on the bumper but can be installed anywhere on your vehicle for easy access. For even more convenience and control, you can add a compressor (sold separately), which will let you monitor and inflate your air springs.

How to Choose the Correct Universal Air Spring Kit

If there isn't a specific Air Lift 1000 Air Spring kit for your vehicle, you can use a universal kit to get the support you need. However, you'll have to take a couple measurements on your rear coil springs to ensure you get the right fit. Also, this kit will not fit vehicles with coil-over shocks or coil springs with internal jounce bumpers.

measurement diagram

First, unload your vehicle to make sure it's at normal ride height. Then, measure the inside height of your coil spring, which will be from the upper spring seat to the lower spring seat. Lastly, measure the inside diameter of the spring at its widest point. Once you have these measurements, use the table below to find the correct kit by matching up your diameter and height values. Since the air spring cylinder will inflate, it's okay if the cylinder is slightly undersized compared to the size of the coil spring. The spring pitch will also indicate the total air pressure the bag should hold. This measurement is the distance between the coils. The bag can hold 50 psi if it is less than 1" and 35 psi if it is greater than 1". Additionally, some kits include spacers to make up for any height differences.

Video Transcript for Checking Out the Air Lift 1000 Universal Air Spring Kit

Ellen: Hey everybody, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and we're taking a quick look at the Air Lift 1000 Universal Air Spring Kit. This helps to support your OEM suspension if you're putting any kind of extra weight in your vehicle, maybe you're hauling around extra people, or you're carrying around more gear than normal and it's causing some extra sag in the back end of your vehicle that can affect the overall handling of your vehicle, when you bring that back end of your vehicle down it brings the front end up just a little bit, and a little bit is all you need to start feeling a difference in how your vehicle connects with the road, it can affect your braking, how your steering handles, all kinds of stuff. So this kit is going to be there to help support that, bring your vehicle back to factory ride height, and eliminate a lot of those issues. This is great for those vehicles that you're putting a lot of weight in the back of the actual vehicle itself, not necessarily towing. It can help there, but if you're putting a lot of weight further back then the rear axle, you actually probably want to go with a weight distribution set if your vehicle's rated for that. So just something to keep in mind there. But as far as how this is going to fit, you'll need to check your coil springs in your vehicle and follow the chart that's at the bottom of the page to make sure that this is a fit for you.

It's not intended for vehicles with struts, or with coil over shocks, or coil springs that have internal jounce bumpers. So just something to keep in mind there. It doesn't increase the overall payload of your vehicle or how much weight you can actually carry. It just helps you to carry it better, if that makes sense. So let's take a quick look at actually what comes in the kit. You'll get your two air springs here.

These are going to go in between those coils and just help to expand and hold those coils a little bit stiffer, so you can dial in that pressure where you need it to be to make sure that everything sits nice and level. You want to hold onto these little caps that come on the air springs. This really helps whenever you're getting them installed, because basically you're just going to push out the air in the spring as much as you can, maybe even flatten it out and roll it up, whatever you need to do to just get that air out, put that cap over it, and that'll keep it from taking any more air in, and that makes it a lot easier to get this in between your coil springs. So just a little trick there for getting the install done. We'll get our quarter inch air tube to connect to those springs, and then those are going to go to the Schrader valves. You can set these or install these pretty much wherever you want.

Most people put them at the rear of their vehicle next to the bumper. I've seen some people actually use them as a way to attach their license plate, so you kind of replace the factory hardware there with these guys. You can also put them behind your gas door, a nice, sleek way to do it. Really is up to you as far as how you want to get that installed. But it comes with all the hardware there, you'll get a little T to T between them if you want to merge those two bags together so that they lift and lower at the same rate.

If you keep them separate and you can lift them independently. You'll also get two heat shields. So these are going to go in between the bags and your exhaust to make sure that there's no heat damage, and then it also comes with the hose clamps to go around that exhaust and hold those heat shields in place. You'll need two per heat shield. And then we also get a fun sticker, some zip ties to secure our quarter inch air tube. With that air tube you want to be really careful whenever you're running this to keep it away from anything hot, like your exhaust or anything moving, like your suspension itself. So keep it away from those springs overall. And you also don't want to drag this across any sharp edges, that can cause a little grooves in the air tubing, and it can sometimes puncture through and cause leaks, so you don't want that to happen. That's pretty much it as far as the install, it's pretty simple, pretty straightforward. These do give you a load leveling capacity of up to a thousand pounds. Again, it doesn't increase your payload, it's just there to help support that weight. If you think of it like wearing a weight belt or a back brace whenever you're weightlifting, it doesn't help you max out any higher, it just helps you get to that max safely and effectively. So that's kind of what these are going to do for you. That pressure can go between five PSI and 35 PSI if you have greater than one inch spring pitch. If you have less than one inch spring pitch, it can go from five PSI up to 50. So you always want to have at least five pounds of pressure in the bags at all times, and that just helps to make sure that they're working properly. They are covered by a limited lifetime warranty, and made in the USA. That's pretty much all there is to it for our look at the Air Lift Universal kit, I hope this video's been helpful in deciding if this is the right kit for you. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, thanks for watching..

They installed, they work & the customer service was good.

its been a year of using the lift kit on the Jeep Wrangler Rubi (4door). no issues. did replace the clips with tighter fitting clips.

not much else to say. works as advertised.

This air spring kit leveled our RAV4 just the right amount. We towed a LivinLite 8.1 all over the western US with no issues. The install takes a bit of effort (and do be sure to measure carefully if using a universal fit), but once in it was easy to set the pressure and I had no troubles with leaking. I ran the air valve to the side of the hitch to keep it out of the way.

I want to thank you very much for the help on fitting the correct air lift bag for my mopar lifted wrangler. I spent countless hours searching the web unsuccessfully for the information you provided. The new listing you added on your site for fitment of these air bags will undoubtedly help many customers the same as it helped me. etrailer has been my go to site for many of the items needed for an offroad teardrop camper build I'm working on that is towed by the wrangler, and again you guys came through for me. There aren't many suppliers on the web that offer the assistance you have. I will continue to recommend etrailer to people I know and meet that want a supplier with excellent service to the customer.
Thanks again!

The airlift system works very well. I installed a leveling kit on my truck. Even with a small load in the bed of my truck, the truck showed sag. With the airbags, I can inflate to the desired height before I load the bed and it doesn't appear to squat!

The ride has changed so much! I love it.

What a great product, I use one of these kits,I don’t know 10 years ago and thought I would come back to the company because they provided such a good quality 10 years ago and again it never fails. Put them in my grand Cherokee yesterday. And they are working perfectly today. Great product perfect. They sent extra stuff with it that I didn’t even need which is always a nice touch. Thanks for making such a wonderful product.

This is the second time I have ordered different items from etrailer and each time people that helped me have been extraordinary. I wish I saved their names to thank them personally. I waited to write this review because I had to wait to have my Air Lift 1000 kit installed. I am as satisfied with the results as I am with your employees. I will definitely order from etrailer again and will highly recommend you to everyone I know.
