Video Transcript for What to Know About the Valterra Replacement Cam Lock for RV Hatch Doors

What's up, everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this Valterra Cam Lock Latch for RV doors. It's gonna come in two different sizes. We got the seven eights and five eights one we're looking at today. It's gonna be a good replacement part for your storage doors. Say something breaks off or rust out, it just doesn't work like it used to, it's an easy part to just pop out and replace.

Now, these aren't gonna be keyed alike so just keep that in mind. So if you we're to get multiple of these for multiple doors on one side, they're gonna have a bunch of different keys so I would look at a different lock core set that is keyed alike if that was one of your issues. It does come with an offset latch, so it comes out a little bit more so when you go to turn it, it'll latch on there. So just because it's not super long out there, this makes up for it, so when you go to turn, it'll lock up that door. Installing it isn't so bad, all you have to do is pop out the old core.

You have a nut on the back that you're gonna loosen to do that, and put it back on there when you drop this one in. But check out how I did it. With the old core removed, we're just gonna put the new one in place, push it all the way through. We're gonna bring our door up. So pushing on it here and you might wanna push in a little bit around that corner, to get some of those threads to pop out, 'cause you just need a few of them to grip on the nut on the back side so it stays in place.

So it looks like we're gonna have a few of them popping through. If I can get that hand started, I'll come back with the tool and tie it down some more. And get a few more turns on that nut, that way it's in there good and tight. Now we're gonna add our latch. We're gonna make sure it's the part that comes out so that gives us more room for it to go underneath the flange at the bottom of the door.

And you can see this portion here is where you're gonna wanna put it, 'cause that's where it's gonna move. So right now, it's in the side position. So when we turn the key, it's gonna lock. So bring screw in there. Again, do that hand tight, and then come back with a tool. Just get a couple turns with the screwdriver, and then close the door and lock it. Overall, I think it works as a replacement part. Again, if you're gonna do all the doors on your rig, I would recommend getting one that's keyed alike 'cause not to add all those keys to your keyring. But I would also maybe look at the JR one, it's a little bit of an upgrade, just made out of a little bit better material so it's gonna last longer. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out and I hope this helped..

  • Looking For A Replacement Lock For My Cargo Door Key CH751
Hey Dustin, I unfortunately don't have a way to know exactly what was originally on that trailer. However I can say that the key is the same in the # A520VP lock. It is the same CH751 key that you have and the lock cylinder itself is the same 7/8 of thread and 5/8" thickness. With those all matching I would say that is going to be a direct replacement for you. I would need a part number or model off of the actually lock to know if it is a direct replacement. Since the key and dimensions...

  • Best Way to Access a Valterra RV Sewer Hose Storage Hatch That is Locked Without a Key
It looks like you have the Valterra RV Sewer Hose Storage Hatch w/ Lock # D04-0471VP, which means you'd have a lock like the Replacement Cam Lock with Key # A510 instead of the Valterra Replacement Cam Lock # A520VP. The correct keys would have that black top as well, like with the # D04-0471VP and # A510. I am not sure of any lock picking tricks, but the best way to get a lock unlocked is a locksmith. Looking at the lock, I do not see why you wouldn't be able to drill it out. You would...

I do have a couple of options for you, however there is not an option to have the 5/8" cam lock, and the 1-1/8" cam lock keyed alike to use the same keys. However, for a 5/8" lock, I recommend checking out the: -Valterra Replacement Cam Lock for RV Hatch Doors # A520VP, and for a 1-1/8" lock I recommend checking out the -Replacement Cam Lock Cylinder for RVs # 295-000004. The 1-1/8" lock can be keyed alike to match other Global Link locks should you have some, otherwise these two locks...
