E16 5th Wheel Jaw

Simple, Secure Hookup

With a dual-pivoting head that offers 10 degrees of lateral movement, the E16 fifth-wheel hitch makes hookup a snap, even on unlevel ground. Once the king pin slides into the hitch, the auto-locking, slide-bar jaw secures it in place. A unique feature of the E16 is the rear steel tension bar within the jaw that activates upon hookup to clamp down on the king pin, providing a tighter grip that maximizes security and minimizes rattle.

R16 5th Wheel Roller

Non-Binding R16 Roller

Specially designed for trucks with 6' to 8' beds, this non-binding slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Nice well made with thick material. Time would tell how sturdy it is. Easy to install, clear instructions with everything you need for it. (Nuts and bolts).
This is my second mounting kit that I get for my trucks.

High quality, heavy duty system. Bolted right in and instructions were easy to follow. I feel good about pulling our camper with this set up. Only issue was shipping, the box was damaged and was missing the pins that were ordered. But customer service quickly got thing fixed and resent.

by: Spencer02/16/2024

Etrailer sent me a one year follow-up email. Since purchasing this I've used it to tow our 11k lb camper about 5k miles. The hitch and slider have worked exactly as they should and I have no complaints.

by: David12/15/2023

Well, I haven't towed with it yet but we'll see how that goes.
I purchased this hitch because I needed to drop the height as much as 6 inches.
My previous hitch was dropped to the lowest setting and still 17 inches high!
This E16 goes down to 14 inches...

Assembly was straight forward and all pieces were present ( even 4 big washers which were not illustrated anywhere in the instructions as to where they went)

The hitch seems well built but the welder needs to be more thorough in cleaning his Slag (got my finger good when I picked up the top plate)

Stickers were falling off everywhere (my heat gun fixed those)

But a couple notable design flaws...

The top cradle for the 5th wheel plate is a triangular shaped arch and the top plate has an axle which is perfectly round. So when the 5th wheel assembly is down in the cradle, there are only two little points of contact instead of the cradle fitting uniformly around the axle rods...we'll see what kind of wear this causes.

Next, the green ring on the indicator rod looked like a 3 year old toddler wiped lipstick on it. (Green paint is supposed to be in the little groove cut in the rod but instead, is smeared all over the end of the rod)
Lastly...
The side plates have a two rows of holes for height adjustment...I have installed the bolts to position the overall height at the lowest possible setting. However, there are two more holes in the tie plate but the casting prevents the sideplates from dropping down even lower. Definitely confused as to what the extra holes are for and disappointed that I can't drop this even lower...
Definitely seems heavy duty, but again, I haven't towed yet, so hopefully the play in the base rails doesn't translate into obnoxious clanking and rattling....
If so, I will definitely be doing another review

by: Patrick 04/18/2024

I have a year of use into this hitch. It rolls surprisingly easy. The hitch is able to be taken apart into two main pieces.

This thing is HEAVY. Even in two parts it's stupid heavy. I don't expect anything less but man, if you are buying a sliding hitch, you better NEED it(shortbox truck).

by: Kory05/24/2018

Successfully installed this hitch even in a RAM Box. I did remove 2" from the handles so I have the proper clearance for the RAM box. That shortened length hasn't changed my ability to unlock the hitch for either function even being 5'-8". I do think this installation method with U-bolts that go around the frame is easier than the 1/2 ton version I installed which pulled knurled bolts through the factory frame holes to hold the support brackets.

by: Jim06/10/2018

Installed nice no instructions on the right rear front bolt on a 2017 3 quarter ton Ram pickup rear end mounted were they wanted you to put the bolt on the coil suspension Dodge

by: William 10/18/2022

It went together easy. I installed it in my ram 1500 short bed 5.5 bed and it works good.

by: Jacob06/29/2022

Upon delivery the box was a little banged up. Everything was inside was still in good condition. To my time with install to insure proper alignment, the only thing I can say negative about it is, you need 4 additional 3/4 inch washers for the frame bracket bolts that are not included, at least I did! On both sides. In the end it was a rather easy success.

Jacob

There were no parts missing! Just 4 extra 34 inch washers were needed

by: Martin 02/22/2024

My wife and I assembled this 5th wheel hitch in about 40 minutes. It’s very straightforward and could be done just by looking at the picture. Just 9 bolts and 6pins a little grease and you’re done. I used thread lock on the conical allen bolts all the other bolts used self locking nuts. We are in our 70’s so someone younger could probably do it faster.

by: Scott04/22/2024

Good solid hitch, a little lower in height than anticipated, but works fine.

2004 ChevroletSilverado

2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, installed the Custom 5th Wheel Installation kit along with the Q16 Slider Hitch. Product arrived very quickly after ordering. It was shipped in 3 different boxes. One box was a little beat up during shipping, but all of the parts were there and undamaged. I watched the installation video once, then my brother-in-law and I tackled the job which took us about 2 hours. This was not difficult to install other than trying to get the 1/2" bolt through the hole on the driver side of the frame (the frame is boxed there). The included wire guide helped, but you still have to manipulate the bolt into the right position in a very tight spot. Everything turned out to be a perfect fit, no modifications needed. Also, I removed both rear wheels before starting which gave us plenty of working room. I have purchased from etrailer in the past and will continue to use them in the future.

by: Chris03/02/2024

Excellent product and fantastic customer service. The hitch was easier to install than expected with the prefabricated brackets and installation kit.

by: Jason11/09/2023

Installed on my 2005 Chevrolet 2500. Used install videos from your website and had no problems at all installing. Fast shipping also. Thank you for a great website!

by: Keagan09/11/2022

This kit is perfect! Comes with everything you need with easy to install instructions. I’d recommend this and other etrailer products. They match all factory specs. Simple and easy

I have a short bed truck, and using the Curt 16516 system Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Roller, will give me the added clearance I will need for tight turns and maneuvering. Curt's instructions were fairly clear, and parts were well defined. These products are extremely well-made.

Once again, etrailer shipped quickly. Their communication and customer service are great. Thank you etrailer team. I am now ready to get my rig on the road.

Well built. Some bolts are a bugger to get tightened up but not bad. Didn't remove the heat shield.

by: Bryan04/29/2019

While the jury is out on pulling with this 5th wheel hitch, etrailer did a really nice job promptly shipping my order. The unit is exactly what I expected and installed onto my base rails quite nicely. Thanks guys.

by: William12/31/2018

Hitch is well made and went together without a problem.
I like the slide mechanism, works smoothly.
I looked at other hitches and this one seems to have the best features for the price.
Shipping from etrailer was fast even with the holidays.

by: Jay09/11/2019

First of all Etrailer.com shipped the hitch the same day ordered and I recieved it the next day. Outstanding! The hitch installation went well however the directions could be better. Just installed and haven't towed yet. So far very pleased.

by: Kent USN Ret04/10/2015

I ordered on a Monday and got the equipment on Wed. I started the installation Wed after noon. Finished Thur. about 11:00 am. I did all the work myself with a little help from my son on holding the U bolts. I am 75.5 years old and had no trouble with the instructions. Thanks. PS Added the Jeep picture for fun.

by: Kent02/26/2017

This is my first hitch. I decided to go this route after finding out the dealership wanted over 1500 to install rails hitch and plug.
Install was not too aweful bad I did the install in about 4 hours of everything. I took my time so nothing would be screwed up. The install videos where awesome and very discriptive.

by: Bob 05/18/2023

Bought hitch last spring, put over 3000 miles on it, still works great. A big plus is that you can remove the top half separately. This makes it much easier to install the hitch with 1 person. It rattles a little bit but nothing major. The slide part work great.

by: Austin 02/14/2024

Had an issue with my bank denying my order of two of the same items. Talked to Adam with customer service and he was fantastic. He got everything straightened out and received my order in less than two days

by: Robert11/02/2017

Great kit. Bolted together quickly! The boxes being heavy caused holes to be punched into the boxes. This caused a nut to go missing for the hitch release handle.

  • Does The Heat Shield Have To Be Cut Out When Installing Item # C16418-204 On A 2008 GMC Sierra
  • Yes, when installing the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit Item # C16418-204, the section of the heat shield on your 2008 GMC Sierra attached to the bottom of the bed does have to be cut out because it would interfere with the center section going in place. The center section, when placed under the bed sits almost up against the bottom of the bed and the heat shield is attached to the hat channels. You would only need to cut out the section where the center section is being installed,

  • How to Increase Cab Clearance When Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2004 GMC Sierra 6-1/2 Bed
  • In order to choose a replacement pin box for your '89 Featherlite Holiday Rambler you can either look for a pin box number on your current pin box (like 1621 or 0719 for example) but if you can't locate a number the next best thing to do is take measurements of your pin box. If you can measure the width, distance from the center of the king pin to the first set of installed bolts, and then the distance between bolt holes horizontally and vertically I can use the table from the linked helpful

  • Is There a Way To Match 5th Wheel Install Kit Up with Holes Already on 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500
  • I don't have a way to know what was installed on the truck previously, even with bolt hole measurements to match up to but I do have some bolt-on fifth wheel hitch install kits that will line up with holes already in the frame from the factory such as the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Chevy/GM part # C16418-204 which is what I recommend. This kit will then allow you to use pretty much any above bed fifth wheel hitch like one from Reese, Curt, Husky etc.

  • 5th Wheel Hitch for 2002 Silverado 2500 HD with 6-1/2-foot Bed
  • The best type of truck to pull a larger 5th wheel trailer such as a 39-foot Jayco is a 1-ton long-bed. Long beds avoid the issue of too little turning clearance and 1-tons will have the power needed to pull a heavy trailer without strain. They also avoid the need for slider hitches which usually require you to get out of the truck to release the slide before making a tight turn in a campground. Trucks with a 6-1/2-foot bed will require you to use a sliding type hitch unless the trailer
