When you need real protection for tools or travel gear, the RetraxPRO MX delivers. Its 1"-thick aluminum slats are built to handle up to 500 lbs of evenly distributed weight. The heavy-duty design resists dents and impacts from falling debris and keeps thieves from prying their way in. Closed and locked, it forms a solid barrier over the bed, working with your locked tailgate to deter break-ins and keep everything out of sight.

Opening and closing the cover doesn’t take effort or extra parts. The RetraxPRO MX glides along sealed ball-bearing rollers inside the side rails, so it moves evenly and quietly without lubrication or springs to fail. The pop-up handle lets you slide it open or closed with one hand, and you can stop and lock it anywhere along the rails to shield part of the bed while carrying taller cargo at the rear.

Rain, snow, and road dust stay out thanks to the full perimeter sealing system. Automotive-grade weather stripping and foam side-rail seals close every gap, while the cover’s overlap at the tailgate blocks runoff from dripping inside. Water that does reach the canister drains through two built-in tubes routed to the bed’s factory holes, keeping the stored cover dry and clean.

The low-profile rails sit just 1" above the bed for a tight, flush fit that complements the truck’s lines. The matte black finish is scratch-resistant and won’t fade under the sun, staying sharp through years of weather and wash cycles. Even the flush-mounted locking handle blends smoothly into the surface for a clean, finished appearance.

Getting it installed is straightforward. The side rails bolt to the preassembled canister, clamp directly onto the bed rails, and require no drilling. Once in place, the angled canister bottom preserves cargo room underneath, so you keep both protection and usable space in the bed.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover in matte black. You can upgrade your old tonneau cover and not have to worry about any snapping or hook and loop connections. The RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover is the best way to cover up your truck bed. One of it's great features is, it can be locked anywhere along the rails you please. It's perfect for keeping your gear dry, covering up that fifth wheel head and you can even use it to secure your elongated cargo. The latch itself doubles as a handle. When you're ready to lock it, it sits flush within the cover and you can lock it up with the included keys.
When you've done that you can put the cover over top. The whole thing rolls up into the flush mounted box for a low profile design. It only takes up about 12 inches of space behind your cab. It's a simple clamp on installation and the rails only sit about an 1-1/4" high on top of our truck bed rails. Here on the inside they take up about 1-3/4". The sealed ball bearing rollers within the cover make opening and closing easy.
And because they're sealed, they're maintenance free. The whole thing is made out of an industrial strength aluminum, it's gonna keep out the elements and it can support distributed loads of up to 500 pounds. When used with the locking tailgate, it's furthers your security. The whole thing is UV protected and it features a limited lifetime warranty. It's an easy no drill installation, it simply attaches to your truck bed rails with the provided clamps. And that's going to complete our look at the RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover.

After about a year owning this cover, I still would buy it again. If you set it up right in the first place, it will work flawlessly. The locking mechanism still works great. The rolling part still works great. Aside from a solid cover, this is the most secure cover I have ever had. It does get some drips of water inside after washing the truck but its not enough to worry about, even if you had a bed full of stuff.

So on the plus side, love how it opens all the way up. When were loading the bed for travel, I need it fully open. Downside is the amount of room the canister takes up and the water as previously mentioned. Still quite easy to use!

Install looks great Jesse! We couldn’t agree more about the instructions. Honestly, unclear instructions are exactly why we started making our own install videos many moons ago, because seeing it done can make all the difference. It’s good to hear the cover feels solid and slides smoothly once installed. Your notes on water sealing and debris are fair, especially with RamBox-equipped beds and tailgate fitment. We appreciate you sharing your experience, and we hope it continues to serve you well over time.
