    V-Bar Icebreakers

    V-Bar Icebreakers

These chains are outstanding in serious winter weather conditions because the V-bar studs can bust through intense ice and packed snow. So, you'll be able to get to work and back home again even in the toughest weather. You can also use them if you ever go off-roading and end up in a mud-digging situation. These chains are going to help give your vehicle purchase to pull out and keep moving.

    Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

    Installing Tire Chains

    Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

    1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

    Drape chains over tire.

    2. Drape the chain over the tire, ensuring that the V-bar studs face away from the tire.

    Make connections

    3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire.

    Attach optional tensioners

    4. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chain tension. Tighten the chain as needed by moving the hook to the next link.

    Attach optional tensioners

If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to help give you a tight fit. Make sure the hooks on the adjusters face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

    Quick Tips:

    • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
    • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

    Tire size on sidewall

    185/60-15

    1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
    2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
    3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Checking Out the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Titan Chain snow tire chains with the V bar links. These chains come in a number of sizes for a wide variety of applications. Our low carbon steel chains go across our tire horizontally. This provides excellent traction and also grip and braking. These are an SAE Class U chain, so you'll want to use them with vehicles that have no restriction around the wheel well area. They're meant for highway or off road use and it's recommended to use a rubber adjuster to help keep that tension. This one is part number TC0A3.

These Titan chains have a nice V bar pattern. What they've done is taken their standard twist links and they've added on a small angled piece of metal there, that really helps to grip that snow, give you superior traction in both snow and ice. We're here at the passenger side of the vehicle. We've got our chain all laid out. This is just to ensure that we don't have any kinks, any tangles, any twisted things that we're going to have to deal with. We're working tire size 27555R20 and again, these tire chains are made in a wide variety of sizes, so lots of different applications for them.

We'll want to just place the chain up and over our tire. It's important to keep the hook side facing outward. As you can see, we've got a nice smooth back here, and then more of a blunt surface here on the front. We don't want that to be rubbing up against the sidewall, so we'll keep that smooth edge facing in. We want to just work the chain kind of down in front of the tire here in the front. We're just going to roll it forward on it.

We want to make sure you got all the slack you can have right there. We now just want to roll our vehicle forward and we just kind of work our chain over the top of the tire here, kind of get it centered up. Any slack that you might have here in the front, you want to pull towards the back. That's where we're going to be connecting it. All right, come around here to the rear and hook our tag end up there on the larger hook. We'll pull our slack around to the front side here and get it connected as well.

It's important to note which link you use in the rear. We used our second there and we've got a plus or minus one variable, so we can use the third, the second or the first here. It looks like we may be able to get it into the second one there. You want to get it of course, as tight as you can but you also want to be able to function it and operate it, to make it safe. In my case, we just can't get it to go to that second one, so we'll use our first one, connect that in. You bring that catch right down over top of it there, that's going to hold it in place and keep it from backing out. Then we'll bring in our rubber tensioner. You just connect it in to five points around the outside of the tire here. You want to get it as equal as you can, spacing wise, but you certainly don't have to count links or do anything like that. The hooks on this should be facing outward as well, just like on the tire chain itself. You don't want that to be rubbing into your tire, causing any trouble. Just drive a few car lengths forward, make sure we don't have any slack that we need to work out of there, and re-tighten. That will complete today's look at the Titan Chain heavy duty alloy snow tire chains with square links, designed for tires sizes from 15 inches all the way up to 22 inches and offers a thirty mile an hour maximum speed rating. That will complete today's look at the Titan Chain snow tire chains, with the V bar link. .

    • Recommended V-Bar Chains for John Deere 3320 Tractor with 27/8.5-15 Tires
Your 27/8.5-15 tires are very close to the metric 215/70R15 tire size, so the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains - Ladder Pattern - V-Bar Links - 1 Pair # TC1850 will work well for you and are V-bar chain links. The V-bar links provide great traction on ice and snow, so they're a great solution for a tractor that's got to work moving snow or just needs to get around on it.

    • What Tire Chains are Good on Ice and Will Fit Both 235/75-15 and 225/75/15 Tires
The Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains w/ Cams part # TC2819CAM that you referenced will fit your 235/75-15 tires but not your 225/75-15 tires. The reason for this is because the 235/75-15 tires are 28.9" diameter x 9.3" wide whereas the 225/75-15 tires are 28.3" diameter x 8.9" wide. For a very similar set of tire chains that will fit both 235/75-15 and 225/75-15 tires I recommend the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains part # TC1850 which have the same ladder pattern and v-bar design but have a slightly...

    • Recommended Tire Chains for 27/8.5-15 Tires
I am not familiar with that size but if you instead meant 27/8.5-15 then we do have tire chain options such as the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains part # TC1850 which is what I recommend. These chains have v-bars which provide traction in both snow and ice. There are no cams or anything so you don't need to worry about adjustments and they come with a storage box.
