An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall when loaded. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride when loaded or towing because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for Feature Review Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System-TFR750M

Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Timbren rear suspension enhancement system. This is a custom fit system. These brackets up here are going to be custom designed for your 1967 through 1999 Ford F-800, as well as your 2001 through 2003 Mack Trucks Freedom and your 1979 through 2000 Mack Trucks Mid-liner, as well as your 2000 through 2002 Ford F-650 and F-750.Now, obviously if you've got one of those bigger trucks like that. You're going to be using or you're going to be hauling a lot of weight Those are not just your weekend or fun kind of vehicles.

So you're probably doing some very heavy duty work related hauling. So having a suspension enhancement system like this is going to serve several different purposes. So one, as you put more weight in the back of your truck, obviously that's going to cause the back of the truck to sag down a little bit. Which can then kind of tilt the center of your vehicle so that more of the truck's weight is being put on the back axle as well.So that's going to cause the steering to become light as the front tires have less weight put on them. It can make the headlights come up and point into the eyes of oncoming drivers, which could cause hazardous situation.

But overall, it's just going to add more strain onto the backside of your vehicle on that back axle. So adding a suspension enhancement system like this is going to help a lot. Now keep in mind, this does not add any weight to your vehicles, gross towing weight. Think of it less as like a second set of hands, helping you lift more weight. Think of it more like a back brace so that it's not helping you lift anymore.

It's just giving you the support to lift what you can already lift so that you can maybe lift more, so help to increase the longevity of your vehicle, or just to make it more comfortable for you.Adding this is going to help to absorb some of the shock and jolt of your vehicle. As you hit a rough spots in the road, especially if you're really weighed down, you can bottom out and it gives you that jarring feeling as you're going along. So having this in there is going to help quite a bit. These are individualized rubber Springs or stops. So as you're going along, they are going to progressively contract. So if you have just a little bit of weight in there, they'll just contract a little bit, but the more weight you add, the stiffer they're going to get as the compressed down.

So it's going to create more and more support as you put more weight in there. But because these are individuals, they are going to work independently side to side. So if one is compressing, they're not both going to compress. So that's going to help increase stability, help provide a lot of support. Even if you are turning corners and different things helps to kind of reduce some of that body roll and sway. Especially if you have the tall load on the backside, like a dump truck or something like that. This is going to help to make sure that is going to be a lot more stable for you, help absorb some of that shock as you go over the bumps in the roads as I talked about. So these are going to fit with your vehicle. These are accustomed brackets. You're not going to have to do any sort of drilling or anything like that. All of the hardware is already included. So basically just get up under your vehicle, throw these in place and you'll be ready to go. It's going to just give you a lot more support so that it's a more comfortable ride help to bring up that sagging in the back so that your ride is safer and more enjoyable for you as you're hauling those super heavy loads. So that's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

Sorry to report that the Timbren package arrived in original box that looked as though it had been ripped open and the carefully taped shut with clear packing tape. I thought at first that shipper had damaged it but all parts were there so I started install. Half way thru I discovered two of the lock nuts were stripped and threads on the right axle pad were burred at the start. We live 14 miles round trip from the closest ace hardware. I used a die to repair the axle pad threads but had to stop for the day to purchase new lock nuts. Feel like I got a used set for new price.

  • Suspension Enhancement for a 2001 Ford F-650 with a CAT3126B Engine Hauling Cars
You do not have to have an on-board compressor to use air springs such as # F2363. You can use a stand alone compressor like in a shop or gas station. The use of the air springs will improve the ride quality by not allowing the suspension to bottom out. For a softer ride you would use less air. The differences in vehicles makes it difficult to quantify ride improvement. Also variations in the amount of air affect the ride quality so it is tough to say how much better the ride will be. However...
