Today we can take a look at this K-Source Passenger Side Replacement Electric Side View Mirror with the turn signal and the blind spot detection functions. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2019 and newer Subaru Forester vehicles. And on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model of vehicle, and it'll show you if this will work for your application. Now this is a side view mirror.
It is a direct replacement for the passenger side factory mirror that's on your vehicle. As you can see, it is modeled after the manufacturer's original look and fit. It does offer the power remote capability. Basically, you can adjust your mirror face position with the factory power controls that are inside your vehicle. We mentioned the functions it offers on the very back.
Here you can see this line right here. This is an amber light that'll flash when your turn signals activated, and over here there's a sensor. It offers the BSDS system, and that stands for blind spot detection system. The sensor right here will alert the driver if the vehicle's in your blind spot. Now the glass used on this is an OE-grade convex glass, has a nice first-surface plating to reflect clear images.
Front of the glass is plated with reflective chrome. The lens on it is a convex lens so it provides a nice wide angle view that also help reduce blind spots. It does offer a breakaway design, which the mirror will fold when it's struck to prevent any breakage and it is in a nice durable plastic housing with a nice black finish to it. Now this cover portion can be removed and painted if you wanna match it to your vehicle. It is an easy no-drill installation, has the same footprint and mounting points as your factory mirror.
And as we mentioned, this mirror does plug into your existing electrical wiring. Now a few specs on this. This part does replace the original equipment part number of 91036SJ590. It is for a quantity of one passenger side mirror. And one note I do want to mention on this is the power remote capability, the turn signal, and the blind spot detection functions of this mirror will work only if your vehicle already has those functions. The product is a good fit. Very close to the original manufacturer mirror. Installing it was straightforward and I had no issues with the fit.
The only issue I have is with the products availability. The website did not state that it was on backorder when I purchased it, so I had to wait over three weeks for delivery. Not a deal-breaker, but a heads up before I purchased would have been good so I could decide whether or not to proceed. I'm glad I didn't absolutely need the mirror by a certain day. Otherwise this would be a different review entirely.
I definitely recommend etrailer for purchasing though. All of their products I have ordered are very good quality.
The good outweighs the bad with this replacement. The new K-Source mirror seems like it gives me a little bit wider angle of visibility than the OEM mirror. I appreciate that, but I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't simply just swap out the K-Source cover with my OEM cover. Truck looks like it has an eyepatch now! All in all, almost considered buying the right hand side for a matching set. I'll leave it for now.
