Video Transcript for Review of Onan Cummins Generators - Onboard RV Generator 6500 Watts Propane - CM54RR

Hi, everyone. Steve here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at our Cummins Onan Quiet Series onboard RV generator. Now this bad boy's putting out 6,500 watts of power, and it runs on propane. So if your old generator finally gave out after many, many years of great service to you, this one can fit right into the same spot as your original. Just double check the dimensions and everything on the screen.

Now, you will still need to hook up the fuel line, electrical, and the exhaust, but most of the major stuff should be already done for you inside the camper, RV, or wherever you're putting it. Now, this will have enough power to run two 15,000 BTU air conditioners at once, so you can beat the summer heat and stay comfortable wherever you park. If you don't want to install it yourself, check out our dealer locator tool at etrailer.com. We can assist you with finding someone local to your area to get it installed for you. And if you have any questions or comments about this bad boy, go ahead and leave a comment below, and we'll get back to you when we can.

Now, this is gonna give you instant power on demand. It's a one-touch startup, keeps your RV's AC, fridge, and all your essentials running great. It does have extra quiet operating soundproofing inside of here, and the muffler is enclosed, meaning you're gonna have quieter days, quieter nights. That muffler is also USDA certified with a spark arrestor, meaning it's great for national forests, and it has all the stuff for campgrounds that keeps it safe. So no mods to do, nothing to worry about there.

Quiet, it is quiet, 70 decibels up close. It does meet National Park service requirements of that max 60 decibels at 50 feet. So again, the housing has dampening insulation inside of it. To open it up, you simply pull at the front and this front panel's gonna come off. There's some of that soundproofing right there.

You can see one of these little springs here. There's four of these inside this unit. It's a universal mounting tray using a four-point vibration isolation assembly. That's gonna keep it still, keep it quiet, and keep everything running nice and smooth. You get access to your oil, access to your switch, and your 30 amp switches over here as well. And normally that's all you would do is just take off this panel and you'll be good to go. I did take off the four main bolts to take this whole panel off. I wanna show you the inside of this, so bear with me here while I remove this and set it off to the side. As you can see, again, you've got the oil, the switch here, the breakers, the main harness connector here, and a nice length of wire. You get it wired up through an installation. Your propane hookups over here on the side. I know you can't see that, but it's right here. As you can see, everything here is gonna be nice and great quality as far as how it's made and everything. Again, the whole unit's about 299 pounds. Again, it's on that nice four-point vibration oscillation system. The mount, again, is gonna mount inside of your RV or camper with some included bolts. Now you don't have to worry about routine maintenance either. Simple oil changes and air filter swapping out to new ones qis about all you're gonna have to do really. And you can do that yourself, you don't need to be a mechanic. Just some basic tools in your garage and you should be set. It's gonna come with a nice set of instructions as well. And like I mentioned before, feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about this or any other product we offer here at etrailer.com. Folks, that is gonna wrap it up. I'm Steven. Thanks for watching. Have a great day.

If you’re looking for a reliable propane generator that can handle the power demands of bigger RVs with dual A/C units, and you don’t want to mess with complicated upkeep, the Onan QG 6500 LP is one of the best options out there.

This generator gives you 6500 watts of power, enough to run two 13500 BTU BTU air conditioners at the same time along with your fridge and microwave. Great for staying cool and comfortable in hot weather. You don’t have to pick between cooling down or making coffee in the morning. You can do both.

It starts with one push of a button, either from inside your RV or with a remote. No stepping outside in the rain or early mornings to get power going.

Noise stays low thanks to soundproofing and a sealed muffler. It meets the 60 decibel rule at 50 feet, so it is approved for national parks. The built in spark arrestor also makes it safe for national forests and campgrounds.

If you camp off grid, travel full time, or just want steady power you can count on, this unit is a great fit.

Thanks for the review, Steve. Sounds like a solid setup. Quick question, have you run both A/C units at once for a few hours straight? I’m wondering how it holds up on a hot afternoon when we’re running the fridge and maybe the microwave too. Appreciate any input.

@Mike-R yeah you can run both A/C units using the QG 6500 LP for a few hours. The running watts for two 13,500 BTU units is around 3,000, but startup surge can hit 5,500 or more. That’s where soft starts make a big difference. You can run both A/Cs, the fridge, and even the microwave for a bit without issues, as long as they don’t all kick on at once. If you don’t have soft starts on your AC units, I recommend adding them. If you let me know the brand of your AC units, I can help you find what you need.
