    • Compresses the rod slowly to close the hood without slamming shut
  • Internal wiper prevents sticking and reduces friction by lubricating the rod with oil

Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability

gas strut features

Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your hood stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your hood to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

Video Transcript for Custom Fit Gas Strut-ATL23ZR Feature Review

So if you've ever had to do any maintenance on your vehicle, you know that keeping that hood up out of the way, is pretty important. If you have issues with your hood actually staying up, like we have today with our neighbor's vehicle, the struts just are kind of given out. It kind of wants to sag back down. Typically, if I let go of my hand, this should still stay here with the gas strut or even push it up, depending on the pressure of that strut. But with ours today, it just wants to sag down and fall on you. And everybody knows this big old hunk of metal, falling down in your head isn't gonna feel great.

I actually had a little bit of a problem trying to get it up originally, 'cause it wasn't actually popping outta here, So I had to use a trim panel tool just to get it up enough 'cause the gas struts, just didn't quite have the strength to push it. So, let's go ahead and show you how we replaced our old worn out gas struts with the new Atlas lift replacements. So the first thing we're gonna wanna do is remove our gas strut so that we can see exactly what the length is so that we can order the correct size. Right now, I have a second set of hands holding up the hood because the second I pull this away, it's really gonna wanna fall 'cause that other gas strut really isn't enough to just hold it in place. So there's gonna be a tab on each end that you can just take a small screwdriver and kind of pry up on.

And as you pry up on that, it's gonna release that tension, and you'll be able to pop it off. Go ahead and do the other side. And now with our gas strut off, we can measure from the center of our hole here to the center of our whole over on this other end. And that's gonna be the measurement that we need to follow for our replacement. So with our tape measure, I can see that I'm getting roughly 13 and a quarter inches from center to center on our holes here.

Maybe even 13 to three Ace. So now we can go ahead, we can take that back to our site and look through our fit guide and find the correct size. Installation's super simple, you don't have to try and pry up on that tab as you push it in. It's just going to release enough for you to pop it on there. And we can pop on our lower side.

You may have to lift up just a little bit more. Pop that in place and we're good to go on this side. We can go ahead and do our other one. Installation is super simple. The most important thing is just to make sure that you get the correct size. As we have a large offering of hood lifts, you could end up getting one that's either too short or too long for your setup. So just like I said, double check. Make sure that you measure from both ends. You wanna go eyelet to eyelet on that gas strut so that you get the correct one. So as you can see with a new gas struts in, as I start pulling this down, there is a lot more tension. It'll either kind of hold it in place, if I have it down enough, or push it back up just 'cause of that pressure inside of those struts. But with all that done, we can close her on up. And that'll do it for our look today at Atlas Lifts replacement gas struts..

The price was very reasonable compared to OEM, and if they hold up they will well deserve the 5 STARS. Easy for a one person install once I figured out removal and discarding of the original strut fasteners was required. Fortunately, the fastening hardware supplied with these replacements were the same size.
