Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your liftgate stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your liftgate to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this custom-fit Liftgate lift support. Now, this has been designed to fit your 1985 to 1993 VW Cabriolet Convertible. And on custom-fit parts such as this Liftgate lift support, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com. Simply input the year, make, and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will confirm if this will work for you or if we have something comparable that will work for you. Now, this is going to replace one worn or damaged loop mount gas strut for your VWs Liftgate and the dampening groove inside of the tube is going to prevent balancing, giving you a smooth operation in any temperature, extending the rod from the tube to open the Liftgate and hold it in place, then compressing the rod slowly to close the Liftgate without slamming shut.
The internal wiper is going to prevent sticking and it's gonna reduce friction by lubricating the rod with oil. The black powder-coated steel tube and nitrate-coated rod are rust-resistant. This is going to be a quick installation. The loop mount ends are going to connect directly to your VWs OEM fittings. And just to give you some measurements here, looking at that extended length as it sits right now, measuring center of loop to center of loop, that might be kind of tricky to show you now that I think about it.
On center, I hope you can see, looks like we're sitting right at 16 3/8 inches. That's the extended length. Obviously, the compressed length is reported to be at 9 3/4 inches. You are going to get this one lift support. Of course, you always wanna replace your struts in pairs where applicable.
