The fan clutch is an important component of most belt-driven fan systems. It ensures that that the fan is engaged at low speeds or high temperatures to provide adequate airflow to your vehicle's cooling system. When sufficient airflow is present, as is usually the case when your vehicle travels at high speeds, the clutch will disengage the fan to save on power, removing that additional load from your engine so that it may run more efficiently.

A thermal fan clutch relies on a thermostatic coil to read the under-hood temperature. When the temperature reaches a set level, the fan will engage to provide additional airflow for the cooling system. If the temperature drops to a set level, the fan will then disengage to save on power and decrease the load against the engine, thus allowing your vehicle to run more efficiently.

Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at this Derale heavy duty reverse rotation thermal fan clutch. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 1990 to 2006 Ford Mercury and Mazda vehicles. And because it fits such a wide range of vehicles, I do recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle.

It'll show you if this'll work for your application. Now, the fan clutch on a vehicle's an important component of most belt-driven fan systems. It'll ensure that the fan is engaged at low speeds or high temperatures to provide adequate air flow to your vehicle's cooling system. So basically when the sufficient air flow is present, as usually is the case when your vehicle's traveling at high speeds, the clutch here will disengage the fan to save on power, removing the additional load from your engine so that it may run more efficiently.A thermal fan clutch will rely on this thermostatic coil right here to read the underhood temperature. And when that temperature reaches a set level, the fan will engage to provide additional air flow for the cooling system. And if that temperature drops to a set level, the fan will then disengage to save on power and decrease the load against the engine, thus allowing your vehicle to run more efficiently. Now this thermal fan clutch will engage the fan based on the underhood temperature, ensuring air flow when cooling's most necessary.

This is an aluminum construction. Allows for maximum heat dissipation. You can see it as a multi-fin design, which transfers greater volume of the air to dispel more heat. It does use a heavy duty bearing with high temperature Moly grease, creates a more durable, higher functioning clutch. And this one is a reverse rotation design, which means it does rotate counter-clockwise.

Basically, if you're standing at the front of your vehicle looking at the engine, this will rotate counter-clockwise.It is a screw-on installation. You can see the hardware is included. This part is made in the USA. And the last thing I want to give you is just the diameter of the whole clutch is right at six inches. But that should do it for the review on the Derale heavy duty reverse rotation thermal fan clutch..
