Question:
I have purchased some Yakima roof racks for my 2007 Mini Cooper S, my question is how far from the windshield should I install the front rack and how far will the second rack have to be installed?

I have included a picture from Yakima showing the measurements for installing a roof rack on the 2007 Mini Cooper. Basically from the to edge of the windshield to the nearest edge of the front foot is 4 inches. And then from the center of the front bar back to the center of the rear bar it can be anywhere from 28-1/2 to 45 inches.
