Troubleshooting A Yakima Bike Rack That Won't Slide Into A 2" Receiver Hitch On A GMC Sierra
Published 09/01/2021 >
Question:
We have a used Yakima bike rack that was left in a home we purchased. I believe it is the ROC 4 1999-2001 model. I have a GMC Sierra with a 2 inch receiver. The bike rack tube appears to be the same size and will not slide into the hitch. Is there an adapter to join the two? Sorry...Im not that familiar with hitches or bike racks, so appreciate the help.

Since the Yakima bike rack you have is that old either the receiver tube is damaged or the receiver hitch on your GMC Sierra isn't truly 2". You can measure the receiver to double check but it's most likely that the rack is damaged in someway which is preventing it from sliding into your receiver.
I recommend replacing the bike rack with a new one like the Yakima BackRoad 4 Bike Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting # YA44FR. It has a weight capacity of 37.5lbs per bike and includes a lock to secure your bikes to the rack. The integrated cable lock extends from the front of the left arm, wraps around your bikes, and secures to a post built into the arm.
