Best Solution to Carry a Kayak on a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Updated 05/27/2020 | Published 05/21/2020

Question:

I have a 2010 Hyundai Sante Fe and purchased a Perception Hi Life 11. I am a single gal and I am searching for the easiest method to transport the kayak/SUP to the lake alone. Would it be possible to load it into the back of my car with the end attached to your truck extender? I can find a way stabilize the liftgate as to no damage the kayak.

I can't say that I've ever seen anyone try to use a truck bed extender like the Malone Axis Truck Bed and Roof Load Extender - 2" Hitches - 375 lbs # MPG907 on an SUV like your 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe, but I suppose it's possible as long as extreme care is taken to secure the kayak into the vehicle. I would consult with your local laws on this to be sure that you're not violating any laws that might pertain to items extruding from your vehicle.

The best solution would be to use a roof rack like the Rhino Rack ROC25 Roof Rack for Naked Roofs - Vortex Aero Crossbars - Aluminum - Black # RR66RR, which is designed for vehicle's with naked roofs. Once you've got a roof rack you'll then want to use something like the Yakima Sweet Roll # Y04074, which has rollers to help make loading your kayaks easier, which would be a great economical solution.

Which roof rack you will need will depend on whether or not you have raised side rails, flush mounted rails or a naked roof. If you want to go that route, please let me know what style of roof you've got on your 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe and I can recommend an appropriate roof rack for you.
