Can the Solera Family Room Be Left Permanently Attached to My Camper
Question:
I haven’t had a chance to measure my awning yet so I’m not sure which part number I will need yet but I’m thinking it’s either 16 or 17 foot how well do these hold up in weather wind and rain storms I have my camper set upon a permanent spot in ND and I want to add living space without putting up any permanent structure just wondering if this is a good option for me?

This is a great question, and one that I've seen before and have spoken with Lippert about previously.
In my discussions they've mentioned that the Solera Family Room # LC362231 (16 ft awning) or # LC362232 (17 ft) should not have any problems in normal wind conditions less than 20-25 MPH. The tan body panels are made from a heavy duty nylon cloth and the screen sections will allow a good deal of wind to pass through it when open, but I can see how during sustained windy conditions it might start acting more like a sail and cause some damage to the awning- so your concerns are extremely valid. What you'll need to watch for is when the pitch arm on the awning begins to start wobbling quite a bit, the room will need to be taken down and stored.
Since you're looking to leave this up permanently you may be better served going with something like the the Solera Screen Room # LC362217 which has a design that is much less susceptible to wind since it is an entirely screened off structure. Again, they did not have a wind rating on this product, but since it is a fully screened room without the heavy nylon panels it's going to be much less susceptible to sustained winds than the Family Room, and something that I would feel much more comfortable leaving up over time.
