The Jayco Adapter you mention, part # 30104 will only work with Jayco campers.

It sounds as if you have two separate issues going on. The issue with all of the lights flashing is caused by an insufficient ground connection. Check the ground connection for the trailer connector on the tow vehicle, make sure it is connected securely to non-corroded metal. The camper itself will also have a ground connection, usually on the trailer tongue. Follow the white wire back toward the camper from the trailer connector to find the grounding location. Make sure this connection is secure and not corroded. The tail lamps themselves are another potential grounding problem. Most tail lamps will receive their ground connection by being bolted directly to the trailer frame. If the lamps are not in direct contact with the trailer frame or other metal that IS in contact with the trailer frame, you will need to run a ground jumper from the lamp to the trailer frame.

As far as the left turn signal goes, you will first want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 on the 4-pole trailer connector on the tow vehicle. With the left turn signal on the vehicle activated, test the pin fed by the yellow wire. If you have a signal at this pin, then the problem exists on the trailer and not the tow vehicle. Closely examine the trailer connector on the trailer, looking for corrosion or damage. The left turn signal is usually carried by the yellow wire, trace this circuit back to the tail lamp, looking for any cracked or worn insulation. Make sure all connections or splices are secure. Check the bulb in the tail lamp and make sure it is inserted correctly and that the base of the bulb is not corroded.

As long as all you are needing is the lighting functions on the trailer, there is no reason why you cannot leave the existing 4-pole in place as long as it is in good repair.
