The aftermarket trailer hitch receivers we carry like the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75155 for your 2005 Toyota 4Runner are almost always going to exceed the capacity of the tow vehicle. However, the lower of the two figures which in this case is the vehicle will need to be the one you abide by. Therefore, your 4Runner with the Max-Frame will have a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 lbs.
If you will be anywhere near the 5,000 lb towing capacity of your vehicle then odds are the trailer has brakes. If the trailer has brakes and you do not already have a brake controller and wiring harness you will need a 4-way, 4 to 7-way adapter, and a brake controller.
For a 4-way wiring harness I recommend the Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter part # 119178KIT which comes with a circuit tester that will be needed to install the harness. Then for a 4 to 7-way adapter I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7 because it comes with all of the other components you need to install a brake controller like the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160.
