Fuse Tap for Installation of Battery Isolation Solenoid PK5231201

Question:
Hi I installed a tow ready battery isolation solenoid on my Toyota Tacoma and now have problems with my trailer lights not working when trailer is hooked up to tow vehicle via factory 7 pin plug. The isolations solenoid is grounded to the frame and I have 12v power going in and out of the solenoid. I took the 12v accessory power wire from truck 7 pin and cut it, put ring terminals on either end then put the isolation solenoid in the middle. For the ignition power source to the solenoid I found the wire going to my 7 pin responsible for the tailights, I figured I would use this because I only tow with the running lights or headlights on anyways. When I turn the running lights on I can hear the solenoid activate and there is power at all 3 poles. The problem is that now when I hook up to trailer I have no running lights on trailer. Do I just need to use a different power source for the solenoid? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Yes, you need to use a different circuit to trigger your battery isolation solenoid. Typically one of the circuits controlled by the ignition key is used - often the circuit for a power antenna is a good choice. You would use a fuse tap like # F2526 to access the ignition-key-controlled signal and route this to the center post on isolation solenoid # PK5231201.
