Troubleshooting Fulton A-Frame Coupler That Is Not Latching Correctly On Hitch Ball
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I believe we have this coupler on our trailer. It has always worked well until our last camping trip. It doesnt seem like the latch goes down as far in the lock position as it did previously. We use a dual cam sway control on our trailer and when we lifted the tv to put our sway control bars on, the ball seem well attached to the trailer. However, we noticed a lot of noise coming from the ball that we never noticed before. Is the low profile latch adjustable? Is it possible it needs to be tightened somehow? Thanks for your help.

Expert Reply:
One of the biggest culprits that will not allow the latch to go down as far as it originally did is because there is dirt or debris in the mechanism. Also if it is really dry that can effect the latch.
I first recommend checking for any signs of excess dirt or anything that would inhibit the latch. Then use a good lithium grease like part # L11354 and make sure all of the parts are well lubricated and working properly. Put some of the grease on the ball as well and try hooking and unhooking the coupler from the ball to make sure it is seated properly.
There is no replacement latch or repair kit available for this coupler so if it is damaged or you cannot get it to work correctly it should be replaced.
