Bypassing F-150 Trailer Wiring to Use of Brake/Tail Light Trailer Hitch Receiver Cover # CR-007
Updated 03/16/2015 | Published 03/13/2015 >
Question:
My F150s computer senses when a trailer is attached and changes settings such as trailer brake controls, turn indicator off-delay, reverse camera is disabled, etc. I would like to buy the hitch-light, but dont want it to interfere with the trucks computer, and my driving especially the fact that the camera is disabled!. Do you know of a way to bypass this feature of the F150 to allow the light to work, yet still be able to use the trailer functions when an actual trailer is connected?

It sounds like your truck has a factory 7-way installed. If you wish to have a 4-pole wiring harness on your F-150 to operate a lighted hitch cover such as the Pilot # CR-007, and have that be completely independent of the truck's internal trailer package wiring, then you can install a simple 4-pole harness to use just for the hitch cover light.
Draw-Tite part # 18252 is a 4-pole flat harness that splices into your taillight wiring using the included quick-splice connectors. A video is linked for your reference.
If you wish you can let me know the model year and version of your truck so I can confirm the best option for you.
