Curt 5th Wheel Kit Installation - 2014 Ford F-350

Today on our 2014 F350 Super Duty, we'll be installing the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel install kit, part number C16424-204. To begin our install we'll first go ahead and lower and remove the spare tire and then remove both rear wheels. While it's not a required to do this install, it can make it a lot easier and more accessible. We'll move into the pickup bed, we'll need to take one of the base rails set it into the pickup bed and measuring from the end of the bed to the rear edge of the rail as per the instructions to get our length and set the forward base rail into position. Once we have our length, we'll then check our width making sure we're center of the bed. Once we're confident in our measurements we'll go ahead and take a paint marker and mark the four outside attachment points. Then using a small pilot bit we'll go ahead and drill out the center of each attachment point. Note for pickup beds we'll be drilling into bare metal, it's good to center punch first, however, for this application we have a spray in liner so it won't be necessary.

Once were finished maneuvering our trailer, well simply throw the handle, sliding the head unit back forward, then locking down our handle, and reinstalling the safety pin.

The B&W 5th-wheel companion hitch will also work with this gooseneck. Before we begin our installation, we'll go ahead and show you the operation of the gooseneck hitch. We'll pull the handle here straight out, and rotate it clockwise, so that it locks into the open position. Now you'll be able to either insert the ball with the ball up, or flip it over and put the ball down for the storage position. • Reese Custom 5th Wheel Install Kit Rail Placement on a 2014 Ford F-250 Short Bed
  • When using 5th wheel trailer hitch installation kit # RP50073-58 on a 2014 Ford F-250 sort bed, measure from the rear edge of the bed (not the tailgate) forward 54-3/16 inches. This is where the rear edge of the front rail will be. I have included a link to the installation instructions to the right that show this.

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for a 2014 Ford F-350 Short Bed with OEM 5th Wheel Prep Package
  • Since your 2014 Ford F-350 short bed has the OEM prep package and the in-bed wiring, the only thing left you will need is a hitch. If you want a hitch that fits directly in that OEM prep package then you can use Reese Elite slider # RP30144. Otherwise you will have to use an adapter, # RP30156. This will allow you to use a slider hitch that fits in standard above the bed rails such as # RP30870.

  • Installing Rail Mounted Fifth Wheel Hitch on 2014 Ford F350 Equipped with OEM 5th Wheel Prep Package
  • If you have the OEM fifth wheel prep package in your 2014 Ford F350, with the 4 mounting pucks in the truck bed, you'd need an adapter, part # RP30156. The adapter mounts to the pucks in the truck bed, and the Reese # RP30870 fifth wheel hitch would mount to the industry-standard fifth wheel rails provided by the adapter. I've provided some photos for you that shows how the adapter mounts to the pucks and the fifth wheel hitch mounts to the adapter. If by 'factory wiring' you're speaking...

  • 5th Wheel Hitch for 2014 Ford F-250 Crew Cab 4X4 with 2-Inch Leveling Kit and 33-Inch Tires
  • The combination of lift and larger tires on your 2014 Ford F-250 Crew Cab 4X4 may make it difficult to maintain the minimum safe clearances between your truck and 5th wheel trailer. The linked photo will show you the necessary clearance distances at your truck's bedrails, tailgate and bumper. Industry-standard 5th wheel hitch height adjustments generally range from 14- to 18-inches, which is the case for the Reese # RP30869, and my technical contact at Reese advise that even with this...

  • Should a Sidewinder or Slider 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch be Used on a 2014 Ford F-250 Short Bed
  • You have a couple of options. Since your 2014 Ford F-250 is a short bed either a slider hitch or a Sidewinder would be needed to be able to safely make tight turns. Using a Sidewinder will provide a better ride than using a slider hitch. Since you already have a hitch this is the route I recommend. But to determine if there is a Sidewinder that will fit you will need to get the manufacturer and model number of the pin box on the trailer. This information should be on a sticker or plate...

  • We offer several rear axle air bag kits for your 2014 Ford F-250 SD with 6-3/4-foot bed. Some of these, as you note, are not compatible with your 5th wheel hitch installation but we do offer a kit from Firestone, their item # F2550, that will work alongside 5th wheel hitch installations with gas engine-equipped trucks. Kit # F2550 will work on both 2WD and 4WD trucks and its installation is shown in the linked video. The Firestone kit includes everything needed for installation and manual...

  • Fifth Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2015 Ford F-250
  • The recommended universal rail kit for your 2015 Ford F250 would be the part # RP30035, this is a 10 bolt kit. There are no 4-bolt kits available that are recommended for your vehicle. The 4-bolt rails are much bigger than the 10-bolt rails. On some vehicles the 4-bolt design will install easier than the 10 bolt design, at the cost of reduced truck bed space. However, I would recommend you install a custom fit rail kit like part # RP50073-58 this will give you the same universal style...

  • Can the EZ Bike Stand be Used to Secure a Bike in a Toy Hauler without the Bike Falling Over
  • There isn't really a way to safely and easily attach the EZ bike stand # EZBIKE so that it wouldn't move around while towing the trailer. Based on that I would not recommend it for use in a travel trailer/toy hauler. I recommend attaching a hanger to the wall of the toy hauler, # S80955. It will be stable and the bike will not fall off (barring any severe bump in the road). I have linked a video review of this carrier for you.

  • Hooking Up a 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch to a Reese Elite Series Hitch in a 2014 Ford F-250
  • You are correct. The Elite Series 5th wheel hitches like # RP30142 will have a little bit of the jaw sticking out. This is normal. You still back the truck up like normal, straight on. What will happen is the king pin will push against the jaw. That will push the jaw in (towards the driver's side) which will also disengage the handle from the open position. Once the king pin is fully in the hitch the jaw will close around it automatically and you can then insert the keeper pin to keep the...

  • To see how to set an Elite Reese hitch into underbed rails just like what you have in your 2014 Ford F250 with Hitch Prep and how to set it up check out the video I attached to the right. You will want to fast forward to the 5:25 mark of the video to see the hitch being installed into the pucks of the rail system. The hitch in this video is part # RP30143 which is a stationary hitch. Since you have a short bed truck you would need the slider version of this hitch part # RP30144.

  • I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite about your 2014 ford F-250 Super Duty, and the brake controller installation. I have attached a photo of the adapter, part # 3034-P you can check out. If you disconnect the harness from your truck port under the dash, check out the wiring on the back of the plug. If you have the correct harness, the wires should be in the same positions the photo shows. If you have wires in different positions, you have the wrong wiring adapter for your vehicle. Although...

  • How to Lock Out a Sidewinder, And is A Sidewinder Needed on a 6 ft Bed Ford F350
  • The first step is to remove the wedge that keeps the hitch from rotating at the fifth-wheel hitch in the bed of the truck. You will then need to install two 3/4 inch X 5-1/2 inch grade 5 bolts washers lock washers and nuts in the location at the rear of the turret, see photo. Once these bolts are installed the king pin will rotate in the normal position in the fifth-wheel hitch. Since you have a truck bed shorter than 8 feet I would not recommend you lock out the Sidewinder. I suspect...

  • Why Do You Measure In the Truck Bed to Determine Where the Fifth Wheel Rails Will Install
  • The reason you want to measure in the truck bed and drill is so you know where to drill the holes through the truck bed. From the underside of the truck bed there usually isn't room to use the brackets as a template and then drill upwards. So instead you measure and drill in the truck bed and then attach the rails to the brackets on the underside of the bed. I attached the video you referred to.

  • Do Any of the Tube Steps/Nerf Bars Attach to the Frame of a 2014 Ford F-250 Crew Cab
  • All of the tube steps we carry for your 2014 Ford F-250 crew cab, see link to the right, attach to the rocker panel. The frame is too far under the truck. The brackets would have to be so long that stepping on the tube step would produce a lot of torque at the attachment points and could damage the frame.

  • Will a Fisher XV2 Snowplow and the Draw-Tite Front Mount Hitch Fit on a 2015 Ford F-350
  • I compared the installation instructions for the Draw-Tite Front Mount Hitch, # 65049, and the Fisher XV2 Plow for your 2015 Ford F-350 and it appears that it is the same case as the 2009 F-350. The mounting kit for the plow and the hitch install at the same location on the frame and use the same bolt holes. Stacking the brackets is not recommended and would likely void the manufacturers warranties. If a front mount hitch is more important than a plow, then I would recommend using a...

It sounds like that is what you meant when you said they have added the other part that is needed. So that leaves the trailer itself. Both styles are compatible with your tire size, but I cannot recommend anything that would contradict any prohibitions about tire chain usage mentioned in your owner's manual. Some popping sound is normal for forward travel but the friction mechanism must be disengaged for reversing or it can be damaged.
