Trailer Wiring Harness Adapter Installation - 2001 Dodge Durango

Today, we are going to show you part number 37185 which is an adapter goes from a 4 pole up to a 7 pole and additional 4 pole on the side. What we have here is a Dodge 4X4 Durango. It does not matter what vehicle you are working with as long as you start off with a basic 4 pole flat that is already installed, then you can upgrade from there. A multi-tow adapter does come with its own bracket to mount up with if you do not have an existing bracket, as in our application here, the hitch itself does supply the bracket. For comparison sake, this is the one that comes with the part number, 37189, but we are not going to use this today. We are going to use the factory bracket. I will show you how it mounts up we will mock it up there, and show you what is going on. That will essentially be are finished product when we are done.

2001 Dodge Durango Questions and Answers

  • Can a 2001 Dodge Durango 4.7 4x4 Tow a Travel Trailer that Weighs 7,000 Pounds
  • Based on my research the standard towing capacity of a 2001 Dodge Durango 4x4 is 4,450 pounds and the maximum is 7,350 pounds. It depends on how it is equipped. The source that you need to check is the owners manual. I do not have access to one online but your copy should have the towing capacities listed. There also may be a towing capacity listed on the sticker in the driver side door jamb. Trailer brakes are a good idea, but they do not get added to the Durango. The trailer will...

  • What is the Correct Trailer Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Trailer Connector for 2001 Dodge Durango
  • For your 2001 Dodge Durango we offer a custom-fit wiring harness from Curt, part # C55334. Unlike universal-fit wiring kits that require cutting and splicing of wires, this plug-and-play harness from Curt simply plugs into the taillight wiring behind the two light assemblies on your Durango. I have included a link to the installation instructions for this harness. This harness uses a converter to match the wiring of your Durango and trailer that employs surface mount technology (SMT)...

  • Are Photos Available of the Front Mounted Trailer Hitch Installed on a 2001 Dodge Durango
  • At this time we have not had the opportunity to install a front mount hitch on a Dodge Durango, so I do not have a photo to show what the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch, # 65029, looks like when installed. The manufacturer does not have a photo either but they do include a drawing that gives a good idea of where the receiver will be located when installed on the vehicle, see attached drawing. I did a bit of research on the internet and could not find a photo of the hitch installed...

  • Will the Curt Roof Mounted Cargo Basket Fit a 2001 Dodge Durango
  • The Curt basket, # C18115, will fit on crossbars that are up to 3 inches wide. The crossbar spread needs to be at least 15 inches when measuring from the center of one bar to the center of the other bar. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. If the Durango roof rack has side rails that run front to back, but no crossbars, you will need to add crossbars to mount the basket. However, the available crossbar systems from Rhino-Rack, see link, have bars that are...

  • Can a 2001 Dodge Durango Tow a 2004 Aero Lite Hybrid Trailer 3,800 lb Dry Weight
  • My information shows that the maximum towing capacity of the 2001 Dodge Durango SLT 4wd with 4.7 liter V8 engine and 3.55 rear end gear ratio is 4,100 lbs. This means that if you were to tow a travel trailer with a dry weight of 3800 lbs you would only be able to add 300 lbs of gear to the trailer, including water, propane, trailer battery, and all of the other equipment you will need. You should check your specific vehicle max towing capacities in your owners manual or consult the vehicle...

  • Universal and Custom Fit Towing Mirror Options for a 2001 Dodge Durango
  • The Universal Fender Mount Towing Mirror, # 11750, is a universal fit item designed to fit many different vehicles. It does not have a specific vehicle fit guide. It will most likely fit your 2001 Dodge Durango but you can get a better idea of fit by taking a look at the video review of the mirror I have linked for you. We do have custom fit slip on towing mirrors for your Durango. For the driver side, we have # 10501, and for the passenger side, # 10502. I have included a link to a...

  • Connecting Reverse Light Wire for an ETBC7 Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2001 Dodge Durango
  • To answer your first question, you will use a quick splice connector, like # 564, and attach the purple wire to one of the reverse light wires. If the reverse light wire is contained within a loom, you may have to carefully cut away enough of the loom to get to the wire. Since it is different on every vehicle, specific instructions are not available. It is also possible to find the reverse light wire further up the vehicle at a place that is easier to access. You would need to use a...

  • When Installing Tail Light Diode System, Does the Brake Fuse Need to be Pulled
  • Once the Tail Light Isolating Diode System is installed, no fuses need be removed. Think of the diodes as sort of a gatekeeper, that will allow the current to travel only from the tow vehicle to the tail lights of the vehicle being towed, without any worry of back feeding. For more details concerning the installation of Isolating Diodes, click on the provided links.

  • Where Is Brake Controller Port Located On 2001 Dodge Durango For Installation Of Adapter, # 3020-P
  • If your 2001 Dodge Durango has the factory installed 7-way trailer connector on the rear bumper, the port for the brake controller should be located near the emergency brake pedal. I am sending a video link of a brake controller installation on a 2003 Dodge Dakota and at the 45 second mark it shows the location of the brake controller port under the dash that should help you locate the port on your vehicle. You can check the port with a circuit tester to see if one of the pins supplies...
