Trailer Hitch Installation - 2000 Toyota Tacoma - Curt

Today on our 2000 Toyota Tacoma we'll be installing Curt Hitch, part number 13013. Here's what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper is approximately 3 inches, and from the top of the opening in the hitch to the ground is approximately 22 inches. Let's go ahead and install our hitch. To begin with, we need to go ahead and undo the two license plate lights.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2000 Toyota Tacoma

This part number will fit 1995-1/2 - 2004 Toyota Tacomas and 1985-1995 Toyota pickups. The first steps involved is taking off the taillight assemblies. Well put them off to the side and then run our wiring inside. We will start on the drivers side first and work our way to the passengers side. Well disconnect the taillight by unplugging this electrical plug here. We will set the taillight assembly off to the side. What were going to do now is install the left hand part of the harness. Were going to follow this harness down through the body and follow that route and we will come back with this part with the yellow wire back up the same way. We will T it off here and well make a couple more connections. Now we will take our ground wire and run it the same way, we will overlap it and ground it to this piece of steel here.

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2000 Toyota Tacoma

At this point we can install the hitch on the vehicle, youll have to stick it in between the frame and suspension components so its good to have an extra set of hands to do this with. Sometimes with the exhaust, some sit higher than others, you may want to lower it a bit or in this case we may want to take the bolts out to fish the hitch in and then well put it back in. Now we install our bolts going towards the front of the vehicle. Well let the back ones loose of course so we can wiggle it around and set it where we need it. Now well move on to the other side. We just need to get it started and then we torque it down. Now well go to this rear bolt here and install our washer. Now well repeat for the other side. Now we can snug up the bolts and make sure the hitch sits the way we want it, then well give them their final torque. Last but not least well tighten the bolts that hold the brackets to the frame. There you have it for part number 87579 on our 2000 Toyota Tacoma

2000 Toyota Tacoma Questions and Answers

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for 2000 Toyota Tacoma Shows 11.1 Volts at 4-Way Trailer Connector
  • The 11.1 volts seems a smidge low since you should still be near 12 volts at the 4-Way. You can try moving the ground wire for the converter to a different location. Grounding it by itself and not to a shared ground location works best. Make sure it is attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface with no paint or undercoating. If the main trailer side connector ground is not attached to the trailer frame then the circuit cannot be completed and you would not have any lights...

  • Troubleshooting Hyperflashing Lighting on Trailer Towed by 2000 Toytoa Tacoma
  • It sounds like you might have more than one issue going on, possibly a faulty converter and maybe a wiring problem on your trailer. Lets begin by troubleshooting the converter/trailer connector on the vehicle. Use your circuit tester or voltmeter on the trailer connector while each function is activated. There should be no voltage on the pins unless the function is activated. If you are not getting voltage at the connector as a certain function is activated, check the circuits on the...

  • 12 Volt Pin on Aftermarket 7-Way on a 2000 Toyota Tacoma is Hot All the Time
  • On some vehicles, the 12 volt circuit is hot all the time. Since you hardwired in the # ETBC7, it is directly connected to the battery via a 40 amp circuit breaker so it should be hot all the time. This is nothing to be concerned about unless something is plugged in and drawing power. Just remember that if you will be parked for a long time, disconnect the trailer! If there is nothing on the trailer that uses the 12 volt pin then you will not have to disconnect the trailer. Even though...

  • Can 4.80-12 Trailer Tires and Wheels be Replaced by 175/80-13 Tires and Wheels
  • The radial tires at size 175/80-13, are going to be 7 inches wide; too wide to be able to fit without incident on your trailer, so you will need to go with a bias ply tire. The wheels that we carry, unless otherwise noted, have a zero offset. This means that the extra width will be split evenly on each side of the tire. However, there will be very little room if you just have 1-3/4 inches of clearance. Make sure you double and triple check the measurements before ordering. As you are...

  • Will UWS Truck Bed Toolbox #UWS00419 Fit 2000 Toyota Tacoma Xtra Cab w/bedliner
  • I contacted our representative at UWS and she could not confirm a fit for the UWS Truck Bed Toolbox, part # UWS00419. She informed me that it will fit the regular cab, but not the step-side model of the Tacoma. She recommended that since you do have a bedliner, that you measure to the width of the bed with bedliner. You would need 48 Inches from the edge of bed to edge of bed for part # UWS00419 to fit. I would also measure the width from the inside front portion of the front of...

  • Tail Light Fuse Blows On 2000 Toyota Tacoma When Trailer Is Connected To The Trailer Hitch
  • Since it is blowing the fuses only when the trailer is connected to the hitch it is probably a short on the trailer wiring. You will want to start by testing the installation of the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, # 118379. Without the trailer hooked up you will need to use a circuit tester like the Quickee Circuit Tester, # 3808, and test each wire going into the black converter box on the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, # 118379, as its function is activated. • When and Why You Need a Brake Controller, 2000 Toyota Tacoma
  • The major reason for needing a brake controller is safety. Without a brake controller to engage the trailer brakes you would have to rely on the towing vehicle to stop itself and the trailer. Because trailers are often heavy there is a lot of momentum that needs to be slowed and vehicle brakes are not made for this application, especially in an emergency situation. Usually trailer brakes and a brake controller are recommended when the gross trailer weight, loaded and ready to tow, is...

  • Troubleshooting T-1 Harness Left Turn Circuit on 2000 Toyota Tacoma
  • You can start by troubleshooting the converter. Use a circuit tester like part # 40376 and test the yellow wire on the input side of the converter while the left turn signal is activated. If you have power on this wire going into but not out of the converter, it has shorted out and unfortunately must be replaced. Before replacing it, you will want to carefully examine that left turn circuit on the trailer to find out if there are any wiring issues that might have caused the short. Start...
