Installation of a Wiring Harness for a Trailer on a 2000 Toyota Tacoma

This part number will fit 1995-1/2 - 2004 Toyota Tacomas and 1985-1995 Toyota pickups. The first steps involved is taking off the taillight assemblies. Well put them off to the side and then run our wiring inside. We will start on the drivers side first and work our way to the passengers side. Well disconnect the taillight by unplugging this electrical plug here. We will set the taillight assembly off to the side. What were going to do now is install the left hand part of the harness. Were going to follow this harness down through the body and follow that route and we will come back with this part with the yellow wire back up the same way. We will T it off here and well make a couple more connections. Now we will take our ground wire and run it the same way, we will overlap it and ground it to this piece of steel here.

Next we take our T-connector going to our passenger side and run it straight up and follow the wire harness all the way across and run this connector up to the taillight like we did for the other side. At this point we can run up any slack we have with a zip tie. Now we can reinstall our passenger taillight. At this point we can reinstall the drivers side taillight too. Now well zip tie our converter box to place it actually fits nice in this channel box right here, well just pop it back there and zip tie it. Now well route our four pole back over the frame around the original factory harness. Then we will follow it up to right above the hitch here. We will tie it off here for right now. The rest of it well zip tie it to the harness. There you have it for our wiring install, part # 118379 on our 2000 Toyota Tacoma.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2001 Toyota Tacoma

Today on this 2001 Toyota Tacoma, we're going to install part number 118534 from Tow Ready. Okay, first thing that we're going to do is go ahead and remove the tail lights. There are four screws that holdthem in place, take the tail light back and remove from electrical connector. There's a small tab that weneed to push down and then we can pull it apart. These are really tight, so it may take some effort to pull apart. Now, the driver's side has some extra wires hooked up to the wire harness that we can't disconnect, sowe can't completely remove the tail light.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2002 Toyota Tacoma

Alright on this 2002 Toyota Tacoma, we're going to install product number 118379 from Tow Ready. Alright, first thing we have to do is go ahead and remove the tail lights. Right now we'll go ahead and disconnect the tail light from the harness. Alright, we're doing the passenger's side, let's go over to the driver side and repeat the same process. Over here on the driver's side we'll go ahead and take our 4-pole wire and we'll strap it at the bottom, alright. And we'll do the same thing for the T-Connector with the red and green wire.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Today we are working on a 2008 Toyota Tacoma. We will be installing Tow Ready T-one connector part number 118496. Our first step will be to lower the tailgate. This will expose the mounting screws so that we can remove the rear taillight. They will be identical on the passenger side also. Let us go ahead and do that now. With our mounting screws removed, we can go ahead and remove the taillight. We will just work it back and forth until it comes free from its fasteners. With the taillight removed, you can see the connection here for our new Tow Ready connector. So we will depress the locking tab here on the backside of the connector and separate the two connection points. Once we disconnect the two connection points, the taillight lens will be free of the vehicle. We will take our yellow wire connector. It will match the manufacturer connection and we can plug them inline. Once it snaps in place, we can then go back to the vehicle connector on the other side and snap it into place. 1:00

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Today on this 2006 Toyota Tacoma we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118496. First go ahead and lower the tailgate. Starting over here on the driver side, if you look on the inboard side of the bed, you can see we have a screw at the top and a screw here at the bottom. We need to go ahead and remove those to remove the taillight. With those two screws removed, we just want to take and kind of gently rock the taillight assembly back and forth. With the taillight pulled off, if you look on the backside here, you can see the main connector and that is the connector we are going to separate and plug our harness inline to. If you look towards the midline of the connector, you can see there is a little push button right there. If we press that in and pull away, we can separate the two pieces. I am just going to go ahead and set the taillight off to the side for a second. 0:50
