Recommended Swing Away Hitch Mounted Bike Racks for a 2014 Toyota Tundra and 4Runner

Question:

I have a 2014 tundra and 2014 4runner and was looking at both the Thule Vertex swing rack and the Yakima swingdaddy. Would one of these racks work better than the other for both my vehicles? Thanks

The two racks Thule Vertex # TH9031 and Yakima SwingDaddy # Y02464 you referenced are very similar, but they have a few differences. Although they weigh about the same, the Thule Vertex, part # TH9031XT, has a higher weight capacity than the Yakima SwingDaddy, part # Y02464. The Vertex can carry 150 pounds, while the SwingDaddy can handle 140 pounds. Both Thule Vertex and Yakima SwingDaddy will work with 2-inch trailer hitch receivers. The Thule is USA made.

The Vertex has a longer shank, which would place the rear of the upright portion of the rack approximately 14-inches away from the hitch pin hole in the receiver, versus 11-inches for the SwingDaddy. I attached a FAQ to give you a better idea on how to choose which hitch bike rack for rear clearance.

Both racks are very good products from a couple of top-notch companies. Either rack would serve you very well. I prefer the design of the Thule Vertex # TH9031, but if you do not need the additional length of the shank or the higher weight capacity, the Yakima SwingDaddy # Y02464 would work great for you.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a round top frame bar that goes straight across then I recommend using an adapter bar like # TH982XT or # Y02531. This will allow you to carry those types of bikes more level and provide better ground clearance.

I have included a few video reviews and FAQ's for you to view.
