Weight Distribution System for a 2000 Ford Windstar Towing a3,036 Pound Camper Trailer
Question:
Hello, I have a Rockwood 2302 that has a HW of 316 lbs, DW of 2297 lbs, and GW of 3036 lbs. I am looking into purchasing a WDH for this popup that will be towed by our 2000 Ford Windstar. Can you make a recommendation for my specific application? Thanks for the assistance.

When choosing a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the towing set up. Total tongue weight is the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow plus the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the trailer.
Tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. If we go by the max gross trailer weight you mentioned, 3,036 pounds, the tongue weight would be 303 pounds to 455 pounds.
For this range I recommend a system rated for 200 to 600 pounds tongue weight, # 49568. For this system you will only need to add a properly sized ball. Use # A-90 for a 2 inch or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch. And if you want to also add sway control use # 83660.
I have included some links on determining tongue weight and weight distribution for you.
