Volkswagen Tiguan Questions

  • I imagine your bike rack has a shank designed for a 1-1/4 inch receiver with a sleeve that can be used to adapt it to a 2 inch receiver, is that correct? If this is the case, unfortunately the # 63232 will not work for you, because the threaded block would not fit into the shank of your bike rack. You could however use a standard locking hitch pin like part # 40107 along with an an anti-rattle system like the # RM-061. I personally use the # RM-061 when I tow my PWCs, and they...

  • Anytime you put snow chains on a wheel there is always a chance that the rim could get scratched up. The Thule Snow Chains # TH2004205104 that your referenced have anti-scratch nylon bumpers to protect the rims, but there is still a chance that the rims could get scratched up. If you want the absolute best option for snow chains that would nearly eliminate the possibility for your rims getting scratched you would want Thule K-Summit Chains # TH02230K45. The chains sit on the...

  • When installing a trailer hitch like # 87600 it is necessary to use a torque wrench to get the bolts to the right tightness. If not, and you just try to tighten them as hard as you can, you can damage the vehicle frame. Too loose and the hitch could fail when you tried to use it. Many auto parts stores lend out tools so you will not have to buy one in most cases. If a bolt is supposed to be torqued to 38 foot pounds, for example, you can use a torque wrench that has a rating...

  • Since you already have the 7-way trailer connector, all you will need is the Tow Ready adapter, part # TR20141. This adapter uses an internal load resistor that will prevent the bulb out sensor from triggering. Without the LED adapter, the very low power draw from the LED trailer lamps will make the bulb out sensor think there is a burned out trailer lamp bulb. Simply plug the adapter into your existing 7-way, and then plug the 4-pole on your trailer into the adapter. There...

  • I have pulled all three of the Class III hitches available for your 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan and you were correct that the Curt hitch # C13133 has the shortest overall height compared to the Draw-Tite # 75658 and the Hidden Hitch # 87600. The Curt # C13133 has an overall height difference of approximately 1/8 of an inch shorter than both the Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch. In the pictures I have attached the dimensions for each of the hitches as well as a video snapshot of the...

  • I believe you will find that your trailer setup will be within the 220 lb tongue weight limit of your 2011 VW Tiguan. You should check the actual tongue weight to be sure, but I did some calculations and found that if your trailer is loaded properly the tongue weight should be somewhere around 190 pounds at most. Close, but within the limit the manufacturer set for your Tiguan. Normal tongue weight for trailers is between 10 and 15 percent of total trailer weight for best towing...

  • All of the hitches we carry for the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan fit all US market vehicles. So as long as you have a US model Tiguan either the Curt Hitch # C13133 or the Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch # 87600 would work well for you. These hitches do have rather different designs and attachment points, but since they have the same towing capacities they will both perform the same. I would prefer the # 87600 for a couple reasons. First being that this hitch does not require the...

  • For a 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan that has the factory side rails that run front to back then you can use the AeroBlade Edge roof rack # TH7501-TH7502, whether you have the panoramic roof or not. Thule was just here for training and the new Edge systems are very streamlined and have a more OEM appearance. If the roof, when opened, raises higher than the tops of the side rails then you will not be able to open it with the rack installed. If you need the roof rack for a specific type...

  • I checked with Yakima and the KingJoe Pro 3, # Y02625, is listed as a fit for a 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan. If you will be carrying womens, childrens, or alternative frame bikes, I recommend using the Tube Top adapter bar, # Y02531, for greater ground clearance and to carry the bikes more level. I have included a link to a video showing how the adpater works and a link to all the trunk mount bike racks that will fit your Tiguan.

  • The Hidden Hitch, part # 87600, and the Draw-Tite, part # 75658, are essentially the same receiver hitch and will perform the same. These are two different manufacturers that offer hitches of similar design, the real difference is in the product name and price. I would recommend the Hidden-Hitch for your vehicle, because it is less expensive and has the same capacity as the Draw-Tite hitch. Along with the hitch you are considering you may also need the following items. Drawbar...

  • The Yakima KingJoe Pro 3, # Y02625, will fit your 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan. . The KingJoe Pro is a newer Yakima trunk mount bike rack. It has recently been redesigned with upgraded components. You will get anti-sway cradles, padded legs, and the rack attaches to the vehicle using 6 straps. If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame tube that goes straight across (like a typical mens bike does) I recommend using adapter bar # Y02531. This will allow you...

  • It sounds like you are using a 7 to 4-Way adapter in the factory trailer connector on your 2012 VW Tiguan. If the trailer has LED tail lights, you will need a special adapter, # TR20141. This adapter should allow the trailer lights to function properly.

For a 2 bike rack that will fit your 2 inch hitch we will have a wide selection of bike racks available. • The TowReady T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118384 that you referenced is not a fit for the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan. • Roof rack manufacturers universal agree that you should not open the panoramic roof on your 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan with the crossbars installed. The issue is that the open roof could make contact with the bottoms of the bars and damage the roof and the bars. Also, the noise would likely be too much and you'd want it closed anyway. Have a helper activate the manual braking switch on the controller, while you probe the wire. You should be getting approximately 12-volts at the brake magnet. The Nev-R-Adjust brake assemblies are known to click, make sure that they are installed on the correct side of the trailer. The # 23-469 should be installed on the...

  • I do have a solution that should work for carrying the rowing shell on the roof of your 2011 VW Tiguan. It the vehicle has a 2 inch trailer hitch, you can use a Darby Load Extender, # DTA944.
