The staff at eTrailer.com are very helpful and knowledgeable - ask if you're unsure. I originally ordered through the Internet and received the wrong products - because I neglected to ask questions. The return went smooth, but I had to pay for it (my error). The next round arrived well packaged (externally), but there was thin packing tape all over the outside of the hubs and some on the inside rubbing surface of the hubs. It took some doing to get it all off. There was a little rust on the non-contact surfaces of the hub as well as on the brake housing. On the brake housing, you can see some rust in the pic. Looks like it may have been rebuilt. This doesn't seem to have any effect on its operation though. Seals, Races & Bearings are super clean and fit perfectly. I installed these brakes onto the existing '4.5 on 5' flange on a 2000 pound axle (on a 2004 Aliner LX Classic Pop-up trailer). It came with the bolts to attach to the flange, but be sure to order the adjuster grommets, lock washers and 7/16x20 fine thread nuts, since it doesn't come with them. Once I got the wiring set up properly, it works exactly as it should. I prewired the setup prior to delivery. My error was that I assumed the only wire I'd need to run was the blue (brake) wire, but there are two wires on the brake housing as you can see in the picture. Either one goes to the blue (doesn't matter which) and the other attaches to the neutral (white) wire that goes back through the trailer's main wiring harness. Simply attaching the wire to the trailer frame (ground) like I initially did as seen in the picture looked like a good clean setup and easy solution to my one-wire mistake. Unfortunately, it DID NOT WORK. The secondary (neutral) wire must be detected by the tow vehicle's brake controller. Plan ahead and buy the blue and white primary wires (20 feet of 14 or 16 gauge will work) and run them next to each other before hand. Be sure to house the wires in 'plastic split loom tubing' so they don't rub against anything and zip tie them to the frame, so they're not hanging or in the way of anything. Happy braking. :-)

Exactly what I needed to install new brakes on my 13' Scamp Travel Trailer with EZ Lube spindles and electric brakes. It's fairly easy to install. Only four bolts hold the backing plate to the flange on the axle. The hard part is getting the old brakes off. On my rig, they must have installed the original OEM brakes with an impact wrench at the axle factory. Eventually, using muscles and penetrating oil, I got the old nuts off and installed the new brakes. The nuts were on pretty tight. Make sure you order new nuts, lock washers, and brake adusting hole plugs. They don't automatically ship with the new brakes. Perhaps many people just reuse the one ones. Now, I have new electric brakes and hubs on my RV.

Part we needed with fast shipping and excellent customer service

by:

The items went onto my Aspen Classic trailer fairly easy. The only glitch was that I received axel caps that were too large. Once I notified the company, I received the correct caps rather quickly and finished up the install.

After getting the incorrect axel caps and quickly getting the issue corrected, the product has met my expectations. I installed all myself and was pretty easy and straight forward.

Installed and worked great.

by:

The part was exactly what I needed. Delivery was very quick, 2 work days. The price for the entire brake assembly was less than an auto parts store quoted Me for one piece of the assembly. Yes it was less expensive to buy the assembly, than to buy just the magnet. The sales clerk for the assembly was very helpful and sincere. The clerk told Me after I had placed the order that I would receive parts at the good price, delivered, with no extra freight charge. I was very pleased when I received the parts and they fit very well. I will be contacting them again. I have owned and operated my repair shop for over 40 years. It is so nice to talk with a most Pleasant order clerk and receive exactly what I needed. The clerk was patient and very helpful. Thanks for the Good Service !

The 23-48 brakes are an excellent replacement on my 1997 Coleman Fleetwood Bayports popup camper that I am close to finishing a restoration process on. They fit perfectly! Very happy to purchase an excellent product from the fastest shipper I have ever come across. I am blown away by the professionalism with this company!
Thanks

by:

Three out of four brakes (two LH and one RH) work properly. The fourth one is overheating. It's not a bearing problem -- it's a brake problem.

Everything arrived earlier than I expected. Install of electric brakes went smooth no problems at all. Thinking on adding some brakes to my Motorcycle trailer next. Be sure be back here to purchase again when I do. Also great response to order progress and update emails.

  • Replacement Brake Assemblies, Bearings, Seal and Hub for 2002 Coleman Fleetwood Pop Up
Coleman/Fleetwood uses Dexter axles so I can help you pick out the parts you need for your 2,200 lb Dexter axle. The bearings you would need are # L44649 for the inner and outer and then for a seal # 10-9. For brake assemblies you would need part # 23-47 for the left and part # 23-48 for the right. I know you didn't mention it, but if you needed to hub drums you would need part # 8-173-16UC3.

  • Adding Brakes to 1999 Jayco Heritage Glacier with Dexter 2,500 lb Axles
A Dexter 2,500 lb axle uses hubs that have inner and outer bearings of L44649 like the part # 8-257-5UC3 which has a 5 lug bolt pattern or the # 8-173-16UC3-EZ which has a 4 lug bolt pattern. These both come with bearings and seals as well. For brake assemblies you'd want the part # 23-47 for the left hand side and # 23-48 for the right hand side and you'd be set. I attached a help article link on adding electric brakes to a trailer for you to check out as well that I think you'll find...

  • Parts Needed to Change Hydraulic Trailer Brakes Over to Electric Brakes on a 1997 Jayco Tent Trailer
You will need two of the 7 inch electric brake assemblies, one right hand, # 23-48, and one left hand, # 23-47. You will also need an appropriate length of 10 gauge wire, item # 10-2-1, for running the wires to the trailer connector at the trailer coupler. Next, you will need a trailer connector to match the wiring on your vehicle, or the wiring you will need to install on your vehicle, to activate the electric brakes. I would recommend the Pollak trailer connector, item # PK12706, for...

You can use hub and drum assembly # 8-257-5UC3-EZ with a 14 inch wheel. However since there will be more force with the larger wheel when it is spinning you will not get the optimum braking performance. All the hubs that have the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and fit 2,000 pound axles will all say 10 to 13 inch wheels but you can use a 14 inch. Just be aware that the braking performance will not be ideal. I would check first to see if you do have brake flanges before going forward buying parts because if you do that would make it pretty easy. Otherwise you could look into having flanges welded on as that's an option too. We have them with part # 4-34. You'll need to find a welder with the correct jigs for this job. If you can get me the brand, capacity, and axle style of what you have I can see if we have a lift for it. We have the parts needed to add brakes to a 2,000 lb axle as well....

  • Do Trailer Drums have to be Machined or Turned when Replacing Brake Assemblies
Hubs and drums that can be turned (machined) will have a specification on how much they can be turned cast into the metal of the drum somewhere. Otherwise it is at the brake shop's discretion. Drums do not have to be turned unless there is some kind of problem such as an uneven interior surface where the pads ride. If you are just replacing the brakes and the insides of the drums appear to be fine then you should not have to have them turned.
