Video Transcript for CIPA Replacement Side Mirror Installation - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look and installing the CIPA replacement mirror for an electric mirror on a 2001 Chevy Silverado. Now our previous OEM mirror was actually broken with a spring and had to be held on with the zip tie for it to not flop around while driving. And this is gonna be the perfect solution to get it back to that OEM look and it's gonna retain all your electric mirror functions. Now, you're going to have your electric mirrors be able to work just as factory but you're also going to retain that mirror defrost as well. So that's gonna be huge come winter time.

These are side specific so you can actually pick up the passenger one as well. Now we've just replaced our driver but if you're looking to refresh your truck or fix just a damaged mirror that you may have, you can pick up one side, on the other side or both. As you can see, the reason we're replacing this, our zip tie is holding this on from really flopping around while driving but this thing's pretty well shot. The spring is gone. So, you might as well replace the whole thing.

The rest of it's in fine condition but really the mechanism doesn't work anymore. So, replacing it with a new one is really a nice cost effective way to get our mirror working back properly. That way, it's not flopping around while we drive. It's gonna keep us safe. So let's go ahead and get this taken out and get our new one on.

Now, this is gonna be an electric mirror so you don't have an any controls here. So, really, just to gain access to the bolts that hold it on, we're gonna use a plastic trim panel tool. We're just gonna kind of work it in here. Trying to pop those clips open. It should just be a few.

And as we can see, it latches down that way and just these two clips in there. So, we do have this foam in here and as well as the wire for the actual defrosting on the mirrors. So I'm gonna set this foam aside. So here we can see we have our plug. And so we're gonna separate this by just kind of pulling up on this tab. And that should separate pretty easy. And then we have three 10 millimeter nuts here and on those studs and it looks like we also have these plastic clips. So I'm gonna go ahead and get our 10 millimeter nuts off and see if this is still holding it in. Now the new mirror does come with new nuts so, you can hold onto these and use them if you'd like or you can just use the new ones in the hardware. It's up to you. I'm gonna leave that top one on and then remove these completely. That way the mirror doesn't fall, just in case. Then with the three nuts removed, you can see it's already kind of loose here but we are gonna push these plastic tabs in. And once those tabs are pushed through the hole, this should slide out. And now we have our old one removed. Now, taking a look at them side by side, you can see that they are nearly identical. And really, I can't tell the difference. The quality looks to be about the same. And something that I really like is when you open up the package for the new one, it actually comes in a really nice bag to keep it protected. It also has this plastic cover on here, just so this doesn't crack. You also have these caps here on your actual studs. So, they've done a good job of really making sure that this arrives in a great quality for you. You can also see, it does have its own foam kind of molded in here. And the factory one's a little bit different but not too terribly far-off from there. So, they've done a really good job of making sure it's identical to the OEM. Put our new one in place. We're just gonna feed our wire through here. And those plastic little clips should pop into place once we have our studs in. So I'm gonna, just put a little bit of pressure here. So pushing in, I've gotten two of the tabs and this one's pretty close. I do have a feeling though, once we put those nuts on it's gonna kind of cinch that up. Actually, we've got all three holding right there. So that's pretty good. So now, let's get this plugged-in. So here's our hardware. Here's the factory OEM ones that we had which have the washer. Actually kind of in, molded into it. It's got that little bevel there. But the the new hardware is zinc coated and it also has a flared edge and it can actually serrate into it. So it's gonna be a nice, good fit and hold onto it tightly. So, let's go ahead. We'll get these mounted on. I'm gonna just kind of get these hand-tightened on and that way it's gonna really hold it in place. Now we have it holding in there. We can go ahead and put our other two on. Now something I am going to caution you about is this is all open into the door panel so if you drop your nut in here, this installation could get substantially longer and you're gonna have to pull your door panel off or you can actually mismatch the other hardware but I would just say, take your time, be careful, and make sure that you actually have it on there. And then once everything's hand-tightened, we're gonna just go ahead and tighten these down. And I'm gonna kind of just slowly work my way, all of them. Not cinching one down in particular, that way it kind of evenly disperses the stress and it's gonna tighten up nice and even, and settle in. So now we're just gonna go ahead and get our foam. Put back in here. That just kind of tucks in. And now we can put our panel back in. First putting that little latch down there and then just kind of putting some pressure on those clips and that should go back in place. So now all that is left is to actually test to make sure that the mirrors work. And it's pretty quiet too, actually. And it's working just as the OEM mirror did. Now, as far as the defrost, I can't really particularly test that and see the defrosting working at this point but based on the connections it was the same as the factory so I can assume that it should. So now I can actually see where I'm going and not have to worry about my zip tie holding this on. I can fold this and it's gonna be safe and legal while I drive. So, that's a look at the CIPA replacement mirror on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500HD..

  • Replacement Heated Passenger Mirror Recommendation for a 2002 Cadillac Escalade
I have a solution for you, but the # CM27375 that you referenced is not a heated mirror. It is confirmed to fit your 2002 Cadillac Escalade though. For a similar mirror that is also confirmed to fit your vehicle and has the heat function you would want the # CM27403 instead.
