How's it going neighbors This is Ed here with etrailer.com, and we're taking a look at our Malone CrossBed ladder racks with load stops on the back of our 2022 Toyota Tacoma. Let's check this thing out. The CrossBed has a 500-pound weight capacity, so that's pretty stout as far as a ladder rack system. Your color options are only gonna be this grayish silver color, which looks good with the Tacoma I'm working with today. But if you have other colors, it's a matter of opinion. However, this is more of a utility workhorse type of ladder rack versus something that may look cool on your truck.

So you're really gonna put this thing to work. Another thing you can take advantage of is the T-slot system on here that'll support up to 3/4" accessories. So you can add some tie down hoops if needed. You can also tie down using your ladder, I'm sorry, your load stops here as well. So very utility, solid carrier, and it's super versatile as far as the applications you can use it for on your Tacoma.

One of the things that are really cool about the kit is the fact that it comes with the bracket kit that works with your utility track on the bed of your Tacoma. There's also the alternate style of clamps if you're sharing it between two different trucks that don't necessarily have this track. So you'll be able to still get use outta your bars. So let's see how much space we're taking up or taking away. So as far as the height from your bed, from the base to the knob of your load stop, you're right at 7 1/4".

With the load stop, you're right at the 11. As far as your height that you're gonna still be able to slide something underneath your bars, from the bottom of the bed to the top of the bar, you're right at 23". So you still have a good amount of space that you can use to still fill in underneath while still loading on top. Side note, you could potentially add a cargo box on top of here to help with some cargo area, 'cause as you know with the Tacoma, you don't have a lot of inside space like you would with a car or SUV. So just another suggestion as far as how you can put these to work.

The CrossBed is actually a really good option for adding a ladder rack system to the back of your Tacoma. There are others that are out there. One that I like a lot as well is gonna be the Yakima BedRock system. As far as your height, you're gonna be about the same, but the benefit to that when it's the fact that you have the quick release system for the mounting spaces where it's tool free where you can just pop those guys off if you need to remove your crossbars. If you are needing something a little bit taller or with more adjustability, the Yakima OverHaul is also another really great option that has the same Yakima quick release. So now that we took a good look at some of the features on the CrossFit ladder rack system, lemme show you how to put it on the back of your truck. As you see, I already have our front bar installed. So I'm gonna walk you through the process of setting up your feet on the bar. Malone side out, you're going to slide the foot into the channel at the bottom of the bar. I go on both sides, and out of the box you're gonna have a locknut that's gonna fit in this space and a eight millimeter Allen key bolt that you're gonna need to thread through. It may be a little tight, so you might wanna loosen it up just so it'll fit into the side of the track. And once you align that with the channel here, it'll slide in. Now we're gonna set up the actual installation kit. This is gonna be the brackets that are included that works with your Toyota rail system. You're gonna use this along with your eight millimeter hex bolt, and you're going to, lip side up, go in here and just thread basically where you have this flat space here. Lemme drop that down right there. And then once you thread it in loosely, this is what's gonna actually clamp between the foot and the rail system, this bottom part sliding in the channel, and you see the teeth that are gonna grip onto the bottom of the foot. Going along the tracks of our bar, we're just gonna place it on the edge of our bed, and then we can get our spacing set up. Because there is no fixed mounting points, you can adjust your bar spread to whatever your load may be. So in this case we're gonna set it at about 30". We're gonna take our preassembled Toyota track system brackets and slide it into our track on the lower end, making sure that we're getting our lip to grip underneath inside of the track. And then we'll just kind of hand tighten a little bit. Got a little bit of lotion on my hand, so I'm probably gonna grab the wrench, and we'll get this guy fastened down. Now I'm doing this blind, so it makes it a little bit more difficult. Up here, actually. And it's just so you can get a better angle as far as the installation being on the inside of the bed would probably be a better position to do this type of installation. And we're just gonna tighten it down until we get our lock washer to flatten. Take your load stop and slide it along your top channel, and you can use the black knob to fasten it to wherever you'd like to position to stabilize your load. And now that everything's assembled as far as the foot and the load stop onto the bar, we're gonna take our end cap and install the small nut that's included with the screw and slide this guy into our bar. So I'm gonna take my screwdriver and kind of push it down and make sure I have the threads accessible by the screw, 'cause we're gonna screw upward. All right, now once I locate where the nut threads are, I can just use my screwdriver and fasten the end cap onto the bar. All right, after repeating the process on the passenger side, everything is nice and fastened. And as you see, you can move the entire truck easily. So this is very secure. The space as far as how I determine where I would place my bars was based off of just using a fixed point on the front of the vehicle to assure that everything is gonna be even on both sides. This has been a look at the Malone CrossBed ladder rack system on the back of our 2022 Toyota Tacoma.
