  • Weight Distribution System/Sway Control Recommendation for 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 and 27-Foot Trailer
  • When using a weight distribution system, I recommend going by the loaded tongue weight of the trailer. The loaded tongue weight is the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow plus the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. Based on the numbers you have given us, it would appear your trailer weighs approximately 8500 lbs. The trailer tongue weight is typically 10-15 percent of the GTW, in this case it would be 850-1275 lbs if not carrying anything

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2002 GMC Sonoma 2-Wheel Drive Behind a Class C Motor Home
  • The Reese tow bar 74943 is now an obsolete tow bar so I cannot say if it is a direct fit or if an adapter will allow it to be used with the Roadmaster base plates. There is an adapter for similar tow bars, # RM-025, but we have it listed as fitting specific tow bars (Draw-Tite (2480), Reese (74950), Valley, EAZ-Lift and Tow Ready (63180)). The best and safest option is to match the base plates and tow bar. Base plates # 161-1 are designed for the 2002 GMC Sonoma, 2-wheel drive, ZR2 and Xtreme

  • In order to determine if the front mount trailer hitch # 650287 will interfere with the plow on the 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD, you will need to look at the installation instructions for the hitch. I have included a link to them for you. If you compare the places where the hitch needs to mount to the vehicle with where the plow mounts you can determine compatibility. Nine times out of ten, there are compatibility issues because both a hitch and front mounted items attach to the points on the vehicle

When checking the gap between the coils on your existing springs, make sure you measure the gap when the axle is hanging freely with no weight on it. If this measurement is different from the gap measurement of the stock springs, my contact at Super Springs tells me that they can find an app

The K1 indicates 1500 LD (1/2 ton), 4x4. The seventh digit indicates a Sierra Extended Cab. So you are correct with your vehicle being a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 LD Extended Cab.
