1997 Chevrolet Questions and Answers

  • Parts Needed to Install a Trailer Brake Controller on a 1997 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup
  • A brake controller wiring harness is not available for the 1997 Chevy K 1500 pickup. You will need to hardwire in a brake controller using 3 parts: a brake controller, a 4 and 7 way installation kit, and a 4-Way trailer wiring harness. If your truck already has a 4-Way trailer connector then you will not need to add one. But if it does not have any trailer wiring you will need to first install # 118315. I have linked installation instructions for you. Next you will need a 4 and 7 way insta

  • Brake Switch Wire Location to Hardwire a Trailer Brake Controller on a 1997 Chevy Suburban
  • It does sound like you have the wrong wire attached to the brake controller red wire. I do know that on a 1993 Chevy Suburban, the wire you need on the brake switch is white. But you will need to use a circuit tester like you mentioned to find the wire. You need the one that only shows power when you step on the brakes. If the wire also shows power with the turn signals on, flashers, or with the headlights on then it is not the correct wire. I have included a video link that might help on the 19

  • Is Convex or Flat Glass Used in K Source Universal Clip-On Extra Large Towing Mirror KS3891
  • The K Source Universal Clip-On Mirror, # KS3891, features a convex mirror on all of them. In other words they are all the type that have glass like a passenger side mirror (objects in mirror are closer than they appear). If the one that looks distorted is on the driver side then what you are noticing is the the difference between regular flat glass placed right next to convex glass. They will look different by comparison. If you have the 2 towing mirrors next to each other the reflections sh

  • Will a Valley 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Fit in Reese Rails in a 1997 Chevy C/K 3500 Series Truck
  • If your Valley 5th wheel trailer hitch is designed to fit in above the bed rails then it will fit the Reese universal installation kit, # RP30035. If your Valley hitch requires the UBS system (Under-bed system) with no rails in the truck bed, then it will not work. The Reese rails will accept Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley and Husky hitches that fit in above the bed rails. I have included a link to the instructions for the Reese universal installation kit for you to view.

  • Friction Bar Sway Controller for a Trailer Towed by a 1997 Chevy Suburban 1500
  • If sway is an issue then using just a friction bar sway control unit like # 83660 is going to help. However if the trailer weighs over 6,000 pounds OR it is longer than 26 feet you would need 2 for it to be an effective sway control method. This sway control bar bolts to the trailer and includes the balls needed. What you will need to add is a sway control bracket, # RP26003, for the small ball to rest on the truck side. I have included a link to an installation video for you and a link to an

  • Parts Needed to Install Trailer Brake Controller on 1997 Chevy C/K Truck w/4-Way and 7-Way Adapter
  • For a 1997 Chevy C/K Series truck you will have to hardwire in a brake controller since that year did not come with the wiring or a port to plug in a controller. Since you already have a 4-Way and the adapter you will only need a few more things. You will need a brake controller installation kit like # 5505 (if the trailer has 2 to 4 brakes) or # 5506 (if it has 6 to 8 brakes). You will also need a 40 amp circuit breaker # PK54540 (for the 12 volt power to the 7-Way. If not needed you can ta

  • 1997 Chevy K1500 Trailer Brake Lights Go Out when Running Lights are Turned On
  • This is symptomatic of a ground problem on the trailer. Ground problems normally show up when there is more load on the system. Applying the brakes with the running lights on will be the maximum draw from the lights. The connector on your trailer is a wishbone harness. It should have 2 running light wires, one for the left side and one for the right side. On a regular 4-Way harness there are 4 wires and the running light wire is split to got to each side using a jumper wire. Make sure the

  • Trailer Hitch for a Lifted 1997 Chevy C/K Series 1500 Truck
  • Cab and chassis models are what they use to make service vehicles like flat beds and utility trucks. They have frame rails that are more narrow. If your truck can with a bed on it then it is most likely not a cab and chassis. Since the truck is lifted, adding a roll pan does not necessarily mean that you have to get the roll pan bumper hitch. I will depend on how the roll pan mounts and how far it comes down. You will want to look at the instructions for the roll pan hitches, like # 1394

  • Trailer Brakes Do Not Work when Using Brake Controller But Do With a Car Battery
  • With a total of 4 brake assemblies, the brake controller power wire will need to be connected to at least a 20 amp circuit breaker and then to the battery. If it is on a lower capacity breaker or fused power source then the draw of the magnets could be too great and cause the brakes not to work. When connected directly to the battery the brakes can draw as much amperage as the battery is rated for. If there is any sort of short, corrosion, a bare wire touching metal somewhere, that is going

  • Catalytic Converter Recommendation for a 1997 Chevy C/K Truck with a 7.4 Liter

If your current converter has no problems then replacing it will not help you achieve better fuel mileage. If you decide to replace the converters you will need the following part numbers: # MF95470 and # MF95471. Most people will notice increased fuel economy and power by installing a less restrictive exhaust and intake setup. We do not carry these products for your vehicle yet,

  • Error Code P0420 After Replacing Exhaust Manifold Gasket and Using MagnaFlow Catalytic Converter
  • The most common things that can cause a P0420 error code are bad oxygen sensors, engine coolant temperature sensor malfunction (does not seem likely given what you have said), leaking exhaust, or a bad catalytic converter. Since you had a manifold gasket issue, it sounds like there could still be a leak in the system somewhere. This can happen with gasket replacement if any remnants of the old gasket were still on the block or manifold when the new one was installed. It could also have ca

  • Recommended Hitch and Weight Distribution for 2007 Toyota Tacoma Towing 3500 lb Pop-Up Camper

If you have propane bottles on your pop-up, they might interfere with the chain hangers that fit around the top of the trailer frame. You could use a bolt-on hanger, part # RP58305 if this is the case. Due to the additional leverage that a weight distribution hitch places on the receiver, a bumper mounted receiver like # E-3S is NOT rated f

  • Troubleshooting Brakes not Functioning after Adding Brakes on Tandem Axle Trailer
  • The first thing I would check would be the grounds of the brake assemblies on the side of the trailer that does not seem to be working properly. If the grounds are not making solid connections the brakes would not activate. You should also check for voltage at every brake assembly. You would do this by having a buddy activate the override function of your brake controller while you use a circuit tester like # 3808 to see if there is voltage on the circuit. As long as you used adequate gaug
