How to Install a Wiring Harness for a Trailer on a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Today on this 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan we are going to install part number 118300 from Tow Ready. This is a wiring harness that uses a 4-pole flat at the end and where this connection installs at is behind both tail lights. We are going to open up the door hatch and take off the tail lights, find the connections, and we are going to route our wires into the vehicle itself where our 4-pole flat will be stored when it is done. To disconnect the tail light from the wiring harness we need push in on the red tab and we can unlock it and then we can release it. We are done with the driver side, lets go over to the passenger side and do the same thing. 00:36

Next we are going to remove the grommet from the body work and we are going to remove it from the wiring harness and we will reinstall it at a later point. Next we will start removing the interior plastic panels first start off with the threshold on the bottom and we will loosen up the panels on both sides by the tail lights. Next we are going to remove the jack tools and then we are going to run the wires from the outside on the driver side tail light area, push it towards the jack storage compartment, we are going to pull the wires from the inside back out. We will connect our factory vehicle harness to the T-One connector, snap it together to make sure you push the red lock back in place. Then take that connection right there and push it into the body and then reinstall the grommet. 01:52

Next we will take our connector with the green and white wire. We will sneak it behind the plastic at the jack storage compartment and pop up some of the carpet fasteners and we will sneak our wire underneath that and work our way over to the passenger side light. On the passenger side tail light use a wire. Pull the T-One harness from the inside out. When you push it through there you can pick it up behind the rear AC blower back here. Once again we will make our connection to the vehicle harness to the T-One harness, put everything behind it and then reinstall the original grommet. One thing that is different is we are leaving the ground screw hanging out and we will make our ground connection next. At this point we have our connections ran and we can start reassembling the tail light assemblies and reinstalling the plastic components. If you have got any slack in the wires take those up as needed. You may want to take some electrical tape and bind up the wires and when we are not using it we can keep everything in the jack storage compartment. To use a wire harness all we have to do is pull it out from the jack storage compartment like we have already and pull it across the rubber strip at the bottom and then we can shut the door hatch on it. The only thing we have to keep in mind is to stay away from the center latch. When you are not using it put it back in the jack storage compartment and with that that finishes our install part number 118300 from Tow Ready.
