Today on an 2006 Dodge Durango we are going to install part number 75162 from Draw-Tite. The hitch mounts actually to the bumper structure underneath the bumper cover so what we are going to to do is loosen up the bumper cover to get access to the bumper structure itself. Now I will take a block of wood and we will just put up it in between the bumper structure and the fascia so we will have a little more working room and then we will start working on cutting out the Styrofoam. We will go ahead and put the hitch up into position to give us an idea of where it is going to go.00:27
As you can see here this is where the U bolts are going to be here and going up here. And they are going to be right in the way of the Styrofoam here so what you are going to do is actually take a 3/ 4 inch drill bit and drill it out all the way through and then we will have room for our U bolts. Once you break away all of the Styrofoam, bring the U bolt down just like this. Go ahead and do the same thing on this side. All right at this point we can go ahead and start lifting the hitch into position and attach it by the U bolt. All right once you have got your U bolts installed, go ahead and take a few minutes to center the hitch up and go ahead and snug down the U bolts. You want this bracket about right in the same area as this indent right here. 01:24
Once you have the hitch in place and snugged down you can go ahead and start drilling out your holes for the two bolts that go through the hitch and through the bumper cross member itself. You are going to drill all the way through. That is another reason why I had that wood block behind the fascia to keep it away so you do not damage the fascia. Once you have got the holes drilled through go ahead and run the drill bit all the way through the sides that way you can get the holes evened up so the bolts should slide in pretty easy. Let us go ahead and slip the bolts all the way through and then put on our lock washer and nut. All right with all of our hardware attached we can go ahead and start snugging down the bolts and then torque them down. All right we have got our hitch torqued down we can go ahead and put our bumper cover back into position and put in the plastic rivets. All right, and with that that finishes our install part number 75162 from Draw-Tite.
