How to Install a Wiring Harness for a Trailer on a 2005 Chevrolet Express Van

Today on this 2005 Chevy Express cargo van, we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118392. Okay, we are inside the rear compartment of the cargo van here and we are going to go ahead and locate the ports for the wiring harness. As you can see, there is no interior in the cargo van. And directly behind the taillight here we have located our port that we are going to be plugging our wiring harness into. And that is going to be in the same location as the passenger side as well. So the first thing that we want to do is go ahead and separate the two pieces. We can do that by pressing the tab at the top. Then we will take our wiring harness and over here on the driver side we want the port that has the yellow and brown wires on them. We are going to go ahead and plug it in line. 0:45

You can see also on this side that we have a white wire with a ring terminal on it and this is going to be our ground wire. What we can do is, if you look just behind our ports we have an existing ground terminal already on the vehicle. So we just want to go ahead and take that bolt out and we can add our ground wire to it. Next we want to take the other connector on the wiring harness with the green wire on it and we are going to go ahead and route it over behind the passenger side taillight assembly where we will make our connection. And we will just take again and separate the two pieces on the passenger side and go ahead and plug our harness in line. 1:42

And you can see that I just went ahead and routed the wire through this channeling up at the top. I cut back the tape a little bit to gain access to the channel. And you want to go ahead and tape that back up when you are done. The harness is intended to stay inside the vehicle when not in use. And when you want to use it, you can go ahead and just route it out the door. It might not be a bad idea to go ahead and hide it behind the weatherstripping here or underneath the floor covering. But you can close it on the door and the weatherstripping will prevent that from being pinched. You can see that the harness still moves freely with the door closed. And with that, that will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 118392 on a 2005 Chevy Express cargo van.

I have confirmed with my contacts at Tekonsha and this wiring harness is confirmed to fit 2003 - 2019 Chevy Express Van, and GMC Savana and the plug for the T-One should have a 6 prong connector on the vehicle. It is located in the vertical upright pillar at the back of the van. So if you are seeing a 8 prong connector then it is not the right connector, and you should be able to find the 6 prong connector. I have included a link to the installation instructions for your reference.
