How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2002 Chevrolet Impala

All right today on this 2002 Chevrolet Impala we are going to install part number 36407 from Draw-Tite. This also applies to Hidden Hitch part number 90137. We are looking at the driver side of the frame rail here. And this is where the hitch is going to install, on these two existing holes right here. Okay, and also at the cross number at the rear of the vehicle, this hardware is going to be installed using this existing hole also. Going over to the passenger side is going to be identical except we are going to have to lower the exhaust to get access to that side. All right, we will go ahead and unbolt the bracket. All right next we are going to install a strap to control the exhaust and we will take down this back rubber hanger too to give us a little more room.

We will spray down our hanger here too and then we can just slide it off pretty easily. Now we can go ahead and lower our exhaust and we will go ahead and install our hardware. So we will use our bolt leader that is supplied with the kit. The hole we are going to use, out the access hole and put our block inside. And then thread on our bolt and just pull it on through. The rest of the last three holes on the frame rails and the two on the cross rails. We will be using the short bolts that come with the kit. However on the cross rails we are going to use the longer bolts. The access holes are going to be towards the end of the cross number. So we will run our bolt leader through the hole we are going to use out the access hole again and run our blocking bolt in.

All right we will go ahead and hang the hitch now. We will go ahead and put one side over the exhaust, use that to help support it. And when you put that up there make sure you do not push the other bolts back into the frame. Okay, we have got all of our bolts installed now. And we will go ahead and just snug down the bolts and then we will go ahead and torque the bolts down as specified in the instructions. We can go ahead and put the exhaust back up. We will bolt the rear mount first. And then reinstall the rubber hanger. That finishes your install of part number 36407 from Draw-Tite.
