Roadmaster Tow Bar Wiring - Splices into Vehicle Wiring - RO44FR Review

Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a quick look at the Roadmaster Wiring Kit with smart diodes for your variable voltage and LED tail lights. Now essentially all of your wiring kits serve the same basic function. They're going to send the tail light signals from your motor home to your towed vehicle because while you're flat towing, your vehicle essentially just becomes one big obstruction. It's going to prevent those driving behind you from seeing your turn signals and brake lights and tail lights. So that's where these wiring kits come in.

They're going to send those signals to your vehicle's tail lights, so they're right there in front of other drivers. They can clearly see if you're braking or turning. This kit is designed specifically for your variable voltage LED tail lights, so if your vehicle has variable voltage, essentially what that means is it's using one wire for both your tail lights and your brake lights. It's sending nine volts through anytime you have your tail lights running and then when you press on the brake, it's going to bump up that power to 12 volts so that it's a brighter light, people can tell that you're breaking. With other diode kits, they're not going to accommodate that variation in voltage, so they're just going to send all 12 volts back, so it's going to look like you're breaking, your vehicle is breaking anytime you have your tail lights on. That's where this kit is going to come in specifically. It is designed for that variable voltage, so it's going to recognize if you just have the running lights on or if you are braking and it's going to apply that amount of power to your tail lights so people can see either your tail lights or your brake signal.

So if you have variable voltage wiring with LED lights, this is the kit for you.I've worked with other kits. You can make them work, you have to add in a resistor. It gets pretty complicated. I would say this kit is going to be very simple. It's the kit that I would definitely recommend for you.

It's going to include everything that you need, including these two smart diodes. Another nice thing about this kit is that there are only two diodes. There's one for each side, so most of your other kits have four diodes and you have to kind of find a place behind your tail lights to mount them. With only being one diode per side, it's going to be much easier to get those installed. It's also going to include your 27 foot wiring harness. This is what you run from the front of your vehicle and where it connects to the motor home, back to your tail lights to send those signals back. It's also going to include your split loom to clean up your install and protect your wiring.

It's got your ground wires and ring terminals, everything that you need so that you can dissipate the heat from the resister inside the smart diodes and which is going to make sure that there's no heat issues at all. Very helpful with this kit, you don't have to worry about anything like that. Also going to get some zip ties to make sure that all your wires is up and out of the way. When you run this, you do want to make sure that you're staying away from anything hot or moving so that you're not going to damage this wire and cause problems with your light signal but overall, I think this is going to be a great kit to get those light signals run back to your tail lights. This does come with a limited lifetime warranty from Roadmaster, so you can trust they stand behind their product. It's going to do a good job for you. That's going to complete our look at the Roadmaster Wiring Kit with smart diodes.
