Review of Performance Tool Tools PTW89722

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Performance Tool infrared thermometer. This is simply going to help measure the surface temperature without making contact. It's great for home, auto, and industrial use. It's also going to feature a laser, that way you can measure those hard to reach areas. When it comes to the temperature range, we're looking at -58 degrees to 626 degrees Fahrenheit and -50 to 330 degrees Celsius. It's going to feature a large, easy to read digital display with backlight.

The backlight can be turned on and off with a simple push of a button. The unit's going to feature an optical sensor to emit, reflect, and transmit energy. The unit's internal electronics then translate that information into a temperature reading visible here on the large display. Again, it does feature a laser, which makes aiming and measurement even more precise. Your laser can be turned on and off with a push of a button. The unit also features auto shutoff after 7 seconds, so that's going to help to keep from wasting battery.

Really nice compact design, very easy to operate. Fits in the palm of your hand and then you got the trigger on the back to turn the unit on and off and to take your temperature measurement, or temperature reading. The batteries are included. They are located right here. It's going to come with 2 AAA batteries. The unit also features a low battery icon that will be visible on the display when the battery levels are low.

When it comes to the distance to spot ratio, it's 12 to 1. This simply means that as the distance from the object increases, the spot size of the measuring area becomes larger. We're just going to go over some of the different readings that the unit has to offer, some of the buttons on there. To turn it on, you hit the trigger in the back. This button right here is your laser, so that's on, that's off. This controls between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

This is your backlight right there. On and off. If we want to take a measurement, hit the trigger, it's scanning. Our tabletop has a temperature of 82.4. If we want to turn the laser on, we hit that button. Got the same reading. Laser just makes it more precise. I also have a steamer right here that I've had on, so I'm going to take a measurement of the housing right here. 109 degrees. I left it on for a few minutes and then turned it off, 190 degrees is what that's reading. Now I just want to go ahead and turn off the lights so that way you can see the backlight feature and you can see the laser a little bit better. If you want to turn your backlight on, you hit this button here. You see how that illuminates, makes it easier to see in low light settings Then the laser you can see is a pretty bright output, very easy to see whether it's low light or regular lit conditions. That's going to do it for today's look at the Performance Tool infrared thermometer.
