Review of Lippert Components RV Stairs and Steps LC678027

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Lippert Solid Steps. Now the Solid Steps are a great solution when it comes to a convenient way to get in and out of your RV. These steps are going to feature a really unique design. There's going to be a hinge that runs here. Now I do have that hinge kind of pulled out. That way you can get somewhat of a decent view of it, but it's just a hinge plate, and that actually goes up underneath this top portion so it's fully hidden with a nice solid design there. But this unique design with the hinge allows the steps to be folded up and stow inside the RV's entry door.

That's going to keep road debris and corrosion away. It's also going to allow continuous skirt metal on the RV, which is going to enhance the looks of your coach. Now the unit does feature this builtin latching device. There's a nice handle back there for easy accessibility when this is in the stowed position, but it's a nice latching device that's going to keep the step securely in the stowed position when it's not being used. Now the Solid Step's innovative design allows the steps to operate through a wide range of ride heights with the adjustable leg extensions. Also the design ensures that the steps stay parallel to the ground, which is going to reduce the potential for slipping or falling during use.

These are going to be recessed feet. You can see how they kind of stay out of the way. That's going to prevent trip hazard and it's also going to maximize clearance at your campsite. We're also going to have this really nice kick plate. This prevents damage to the side wall and to the skirt on the RV. Now I also want to point our we're going to have an extra wide or an extra deep top step.

This is for easy entry and exit. Each step is going to have multiple pieces of grip tape on it that's going to provide maximum grip, it's going to increase the amount of footing that you're able to have on each step, and then also there's going to be grooves in each step. Those grooves are going to do a great job at elevating your feet and keeping dirt, grime and moisture kind of off of the surface. That way, it doesn't really create a slick or slippery surface area. The unit's going to feature a 400-pound capacity. Few measurements to go over with you real quick.

We definitely want to ensure that this is going to work for your application. Now the top step itself, I told you that that's a little bit bigger. That is still going to measure 24 inches going in this direction, and then the depth back to front, that's going to give us a measurement of 13 inches deep. All the other steps measure 24 inches by 8 1/2 inches deep. So that is quite a bit wider to increase the amount of space that you have for easy entry and exiting of your RV. The rise and drop, so from here to here, here to here, and here to here, that's going to give us a rise and drop of about 8 inches. Now this one right here, to the entry of your RV, is going to be about nine inches, so got about an additional inch there. When this is folded up, so when it's upwards in the doorway, from the end of steps to the mounting plate we're looking at about 56 1/4 inches long or tall. The plate that goes over the hinge, that's this right here, this is going to give us a length measurement of about 26 and 1/8 of an inch, and then the depth from this point here to the back, that's going to give us a measurement of about 5 and 1/8 of an inch deep. The hinge plate itself, so that plate that I showed you earlier, that's 21 inches long by 2 and 3/4 of and inch wide. I know it's alb difficult to se with the way I have this set up, but there's multiple mounting points on this hinge. So your going to have these elongated slots. This is going to provide a nice tight, secure connection point at the mounting surface. The mounting slots are separated back to front, on center, by about 1 and 1/8 of an inch, and then side to side, we're looking at about 19 inches. So if we take a center on center measurement, going this direction, outer ones are separated on center by just about 19 inches. Up and down, again, 1 1/8, individual holes, so we're looking at about 4 3/4 between each one, again, not 19 from this one. That one's center on center. But that mounting hinge has multiple mounting hole on it. Also right here you're going to have two more mount holes. This allows you to get the step installed for the initial installation, and then you can fold it up and continue installing the rest of the mounting hardware on the hinge. It has plastic caps over that, so that way, all that hardware is out of the way and hidden, and ultimately it does not interfere at all with the footing that this unit has to offer. Now again, this unit will fit a variety of RV ride heights. We took some vertical measurements with the step in the fully retracted position, and the steps we're still level with a minimum height of 35 3/4 inches from the ground to the mounting surface. So we took a straight line measurement just like this, with it in the fully retracted position, and still got a level measurement from the ground to the mounting surface of the RV, with it at 35 3/4 inches. Now with the step fully extended, the steps we're still level, with a maximum height of 44 1/4 inches from the ground to the mounting surface. So if your RV door frame is between those measurements, then this step's going to be a really good option for you. The adjustable feet located down here, you can see a multi hole design. That's going to offer an addition 13 inches of adjustment, and the unit's going to adjust in increments of 1 inch. The door lock system, that's going to be 28 inches wide, so this system's designed the fit inside of a 28 inch wide door frame, and installation hardware for this unit is not included. Now I did got through the instructions and found that it recommended using number 10 inch and a half self tapping screws for laminate floors or number 10 inch and a half wood screws for wood flooring. But that's going to do it for today's look at the Lippert Solid Steps.

The correct fit for you is the SolidStep Manual Fold-Down Steps for 26" to 29-7/8" RV Door Frames - Quad - Aluminum # LC791574 . This will fit entry heights between 35 and 44 inches so it will be a great fit.

The 9 inches drop on the first step is a little deeper as you referenced. The reason for that is that top plate sits over top of the hinge and that adds some height. The first step is however much deeper than the other steps to allow you more easily open and close the door while providing more room.
