racks on truck canopy and cab

Published 08/09/2017

Question:

Hi there, I have a tacoma short bed truck. I have rails installed on the Leer canopy. The problem is that my kayaks are too far back to be able to hook up my trailer which has a short tongue. I have read that it is not good to put a kayak 17foot fiberglass on the racks where one is fixed on the canopy and one on the truck cab itself. Can you tell me how serious a concern this is? the easiest solution is to add one cross bar over the cab but not if it will crack my kayak! Also - the rack shop is saying that I need a custom install to either drill directly through the cab toyota tacoma 2016, double cab or even to use Rhino ditch mounts. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

If the crossbar height between the roof rack and the canopy is the same so that the kayak can be carried level it should be okay. But you would want to verify with Leer since they are the ones who have possibly rated the cap for a weight capacity.
