Weight Distribution and Sway Control for a 2006 Honda Ridgeline

Published 02/26/2010

Question:

I own a 2006 Honda Ridgeline truck. The Owners manual says ... A weight distributing hitch is not recommended for use with your vehicle, as an improperly adjusted weight distributing hitch may reduce handling, stability, and braking performance. However, your article says a wdh should be used if you plan to tow more than 50 of your vehicles weight. [The truck weighs 4,500 # and I plan to tow 4,000 #. The towing capacity of the truck is 5,000 #]. Also, rv.org non-profit rv organization indicates that a wdh should be used when towing over 3,000 #. I want to believe your experts and rv.org, but since Honda says not to use weight distributing hitches, Im really confused. Any advise will be appreciated. Thank You.

I called Honda directly and spoke with a technician regarding the Ridgeline and a WD system. He stated that Honda does not recommend a weight distribution system for your vehicle the same as your owners manual says.
