Question:
I have a small trailer with just brake lights and a 7 prong plug. Do I need the 118248 harness plus the 30717 adapter? signed, totally confused.

If your 2005 Toyota Highlander does not currently have any trailer connector but does have the tow package then you will first need to install a 4-Way such as # 118248. If it did not have the tow package you would use # 118413.
Then you would need a 4 to 7-Way adapter. You can use # 30717 but I recommend # 37185 since it comes with a mounting bracket. For either you will need to make sure the white wire is grounded to a clean bare metal surface.
Since you only need the light functions the remaining wires can be taped up and stowed out of the way.
