What Size Drop Ball Mount Do I Need for a Lifted Chevy Silverado 1500

Published 10/16/2026

Question:

I recently lifted my 2026 Silverado 1500 and need a new ball mount for my equipment trailer. It uses a 2-5/16" ball, but I'm not sure how much drop I need now that the truck sits higher. What would you recommend?

Hi Travis! I recommend the BTBRV InstaLatch Ball Mounts. These have a 2-5/16" ball already installed and torqued, and the quick-release design makes it easy to remove the ball mount when you aren't towing.

We have the following available with a 2-5/16" ball:

-BTBRV InstaLatch - 2" Drop # BTBRV009

-BTBRV InstaLatch - 4" Drop # BTBRV010

-BTBRV InstaLatch - 6" Drop # BTBRV011

To find the correct drop, measure from the ground to the top inside edge of your receiver, then subtract the height of your trailer coupler with the trailer sitting level. The difference is the drop you need.

I also recommend the etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Collar # e38FV to help eliminate movement in the receiver, along with the # e39PR if you want to lock the ball mount in place.

What are you typically hauling in your equipment trailer?

Mostly hauling a compact tractor and attachments. If the lift puts me between a 4" and 6" drop, which would be better?

@Travis I'd choose whichever keeps your equipment trailer closest to level. You don't want the trailer sitting noticeably nose-high or nose-low, especially when hauling equipment. If neither the 4" # BTBRV010 nor 6" # BTBRV011 works with your measurements, an adjustable ball mount may be a better option.
